Have you ever looked past yourself in a mirror? Explanation: I've lived in my house for 32 years, but when I look in a mirror, my rooms look foreign to me. Everything is not only backwards, but unfamiliar. The same is true for my outside yard. It's hard to explain.
Years ago when I was teaching, I used to show a film from the Moody Bible Institute (Chicago)that was about the "amazing brain" (a rather ironic collaboration, but that's another story).
This guy would put on special goggles that would turn his world upside down. He couldn't ride a bicycle with his eyes open. He was unable to catch a ball. Gravity was up. The camera would give a view of what it would look like, so you could tell how difficult it was to function normally.
After a week or two, the man with the goggles started to adjust. His brain reversed his images, and he could perform all activities with relative ease. When he took his goggles off, it was like when he first put them on--everything was upside down again! He quickly readjusted back to "normal".
At this point, I could make some statements about how our minds perceive things (politics, religion, music, people, etc., etc.), and how it is possible to change one's opinions without looking in a mirror or putting on special goggles. But I won't.
