Eighteen Days Worth

Returning to mybloggers and all my friends, I see that I've been gone 18 days. How can I possibly cover all that much time in a single post? I'll give it a shot.

As a reminder, my sister and I drove down to the Florida panhandle for a two week "vacation" (I put the word in quotation marks because I'm retired, so every day is a vacation.). We dodged the snow and ice coming and going by leaving a day early and hightailing it back before the bad weather caused us highway nightmares. It worked. What didn't work was that we were rear-ended in Montgomery AL by a hit and run driver. While it crushed my truck's bumper, we weren't hurt or delayed more than the half hour it took to report the accident to the city police. We got the licence plate number of the perpertrator (sp?) as she sped away after I pulled over (we were stopped when she hit us). So we'll await the outcome. I dread dealing with all the insurance crap that's forthcoming.

We rented a double wide house trailer in St. Joe Beach (near Port St. Joe, 35 miles SE of Panama City). Since it was relatively cheap, you get what you pay for. I'd give it a B. My sister would give it a C. Neat, fully furnished. All we needed was food and our clothes. Two blocks from the beach, neighborhood somewhat questionable. And we had RATS! Poison pellets got rid of them, but it took a week. Meanwhile, we could hear them in the walls, and saw their droppings every morning. That grossed Barbara out. And there were a few other things that weren't good, but it's not home.

Then there was the weather. Temps averaged 15 degrees below average! And rain, rain, rain. And wind. Crappy weather for two solid weeks. When it was sunny, it was only 42 for a high. Miserable. But no snow to shovel! (Although it did snow north of us in Florida.)

But I was able to get out most days to run or walk. And we had the beaches to ourselves. On most occasions, I saw not one soul in either direction for miles down the beach. The beaches are beautiful, by the way.

I'll post a couple of other things in detail later this week.
Glad to be back, although I have a list of things to do a mile long. I'm crossing off "writing a post". Later.
