While I don't read as much in the "summertime", I'm not without a book in my hands in the evening.
I took a Charles Dickens biography to California with me, and got it wet somehow. Cost me $39, but it's now mine.
When I was in the ninth grade, we had to read the condensed version of "Great Expectations". I can still remember how much I enjoyed it, surprised at the ending. It may well have sparked my life-long love of reading. (I read the longer version several years ago.) Anyway, I learned much about the life and times of Dickens in this bio. (I won't bore you with details.)
Then, I read "Kearny's March" by Winston Groom, a history of the taking of Mexican territories in 1846-7. Many figures came to life, including Gen. Kearny, John Fremont, Kit Carson, Robert Stockton, President Polk, the Donner party, and more. Good book for history buffs.
I'm now reading "DaVinci's Ghost", but Toby Lester. It's the story of Vitruvian Man (the jumping jack man) made famous by Leonardo's illustration. So far, it's quite a tale, going back to the Greeks and Romans (Vitruvius).
Gee, I wish I had more time to read. Perhaps I should quit golf and gardening!
That is why there is so much hatred here.No one want to give in.
It is only a book and surely it will not bite you.
