Last Stop, Union Station

After I picked up Friend from church on Sunday morning, she seemed stiff and quiet. But not for long as she started talking about her experience at the more liberal congregation at the Hollywood church. She decided it was a good time to bring up her beliefs to me and how important it was to her that I give her view a chance.

She went on and on about how her branch of christianity was the only right one because they follow only the written word of god. According to her the other forms of christianity follow a man written doctrine and therefore those people will be judged by god and not allowed to go to heaven because they did not follow the true word. (I will try to refrain from stepping on my soap box here...but I didn't hold back on her... )

I couldn't believe that Friend still feels that most people, even good christians, are not going to heaven. I told her that if heaven was only going to be filled with judgmental "christians" then I didn't want to spend eternity there with them. We debated a bit longer and she could tell that I was not going to budge on my viewpoint and she wasn't going to budge on hers.

We grabbed a snack and headed off to tour a Frank Lloyd Wright house as she is a fan of his architecture. After that we rode the Metro Rail to Olvera Street to dine at LA's first Mexican Restaurant. (Again I was tempted to have a beer or margarita but didn't.) We stopped at the Civic Center Metro stop to view the curvy metal structure of The Walt Disney Concert Hall.

The day was getting late so we headed back into the Heart of Hollywood to buy some cheesy souvenirs for her kids. We got home at 8 o'clock and I passed out on the couch while she packed.

Early Monday morning, we drove to the Metro station and rode the subway to Union Station where I put her on the Flyaway bus to LAX with only moments to spare. She would have missed her flight had we missed that bus.

Despite our little tiff on Sunday morning she is still talking about returning with her husband and maybe her three boys some day.

*sigh*

It's raining in LA and hopefully it will cleanse my soul of this weekend and leave me only with the happy moments of her visit.
