Next Stop, the Beach, Hollywood and Church

Everything was great on Friday and Saturday with my childhood friend's visit.

Friday after I got off work early, we hiked the mountain path up to the observatory walked around and then hiked back down. We went out for dinner in my neighborhood and stayed up late talking.

Saturday morning, we met up with Jackie and headed to the beach for a run. The friend held strong with us for 5 miles and Jackie finished 7 miles per her training plan and I put in my earphones and finished my 12 miles strong. I did however forget to put sunblock on my arms and have a nasty sunburn on my shoulders. Ouch! my bad. But having that additional hour of running to myself was worth the pain.

We all dined on Third Street Promenade at Barney's Beanery. (I was tempted to have a beer after my run but I didn't). And we drove back along scenic Sunset Blvd. Jackie was a great tour guide. My Friend and I headed back to my place for a nap. A common post-run activity for me. We awoke around 5pm when Thom called. We arranged dinner plans so Friend could meet Thom since Friend was too worried about going to the party and being around people drinking and dancing.

Thom was on his best behavior as was Friend. I had warned each of them beforehand to not even bother bringing up religion or politics since they would not see eye to eye... ever. (I was tempted to have a beer or sangria with my pizza but I didn't). After dinner Thom walked us to the ice cream shop and then headed off to the party. Sniff:Sniff.

Sunday, Friend and I got up early yet again, and drove to Hollywood to see the infamous courtyard of hand-prints at the Mann's Chinese Theater. We strolled down the Walk of Fame so Friend could take photos of the stars in the sidewalk. We then went to the Farmers Market near Hollywood & Vine and sampled fruits and foods before I took her to church.

When we pulled up in the parking lot, I told her that I would not be going with her. She pouted a little and I told her that as uncomfortable as she felt about going to the party is how uncomfortable I feel about going to church. She herself was apprehensive about going to a new church even though it was listed in her book. But like a good little christian off she went.

I left for an hour to find coffee and chat with my parents on the phone. And to have a moment of much needed peace.

On a side note: my parents are discussing a trip out in late April. Which is always a good thing.
