San Fran Half Marathon
I ran my 8th Half Marathon on Sunday the 25th in San Francisco.
I did it on very little training as I had bronchitis the entire month of June and couldn't do any form of workouts during that time. So that being said, this was the hardest 13.1 miles I have ever run but one of the most scenic.
We started near the Ferry Building on the Embarcadero at 6:30am.
We ran along the Embarcadero past Fisherman's Warf and Pier 39 and through Crissy Park with a view of the Golden Gate Bridge in the distance.
We ran over the GGB in dense fog circled around and back over the bridge again heading toward Gold Gate Park.
We finished the course running up and down hills in the neighborhoods between the bridge and the park. By then each part of my body had started to hurt including my lungs. I ran down the hills and along the flatter sections and walked the uphills. I ran most of the bridge out and back with the exception of stopping to take a photo or two and to say hello and cheer on my friend, the Lil Green Girl who snapped a photo of me before I gave her a hug through the cables (therunninggreengirl dot com).
I had my shuffle playing all my favorite songs and as I approached the last half mile I scanned through the songs for something inspirational and stopped on a Ting Tings song which didn't take me to the finish but one of my favorite songs from a local band popped up next and carried me across the finish line with the cheers of two other friends who were waiting for me and Green Girl to finish.
I got my two medals and my jacket for finishing the California Dreamin' Series. Which was worth the sore muscles and banged up knee. (Which seems to be almost back to normal today). After finishing the race, I was so happy that I postponed it last year to save my legs for the Grand Canyon hike. Especially after seeing the race medal as this year's image is of the bridge while last year was an image of a crab. The bridge icon is so much better especially after running over the Golden Gate Bridge.
So I have proved that with proper training I can run a half marathon in 2 hours and 14 minutes while with no training I can still finish in 2 hours and 44 minutes. My next scheduled Half Marathon is the Rock n Roll in October and I plan to be fully trained for it.
