My Poor Tight Glutes


My weekend got turned around and left me resting my sore muscles today.

Hans birthday party was fun. Saturday's training run got moved to Sunday and the opportunity to go on a walking tour of Los Angeles came up at the party so I was able to go. It was my first guided tour of downtown that I didn't just do on my own with my Lonely Planet Guide.

I spent the rest of Saturday with Thom but since I was running the next morning, I could not spend the night. Thom surprised me by taking me out to dinner at the Olive Garden (he'd never been) and I got the minestrone soup. He spent most of the night talking about his problems and then regretting spending so much of our time talking about his woes. I told him that I care about him and as his girlfriend I will always listen.

But as the night got later, I fought off sleep trying to listen and he decided that I couldn't go home with out some lovin'. He seductively woke me up. That was nice.

I met Jackie at 7am on Sunday morning and we headed back to the beach to run 12.5 miles followed by brunch at the On the Waterfront Cafe. The run was great but by mile 9, it was my turn for regret. The kidney beans in my minestrone were becoming uncomfortable. Plus the online bootcamp has been literally kicking my butt making my glutes ache during the run.

By mile 11, I was trying to decide how far I could go before I really needed the restroom. At mile 12 we reached the pier and I decided that was the perfect stopping point for my training run. I told Jackie I'd meet her at the car.

I've heard stories of runners not making it to the porta potties on the race route and that was the closest I'd come to that. At least running along the beach near Santa Monica and Venice provides plenty of public restrooms. So mental note: No beans the night before a long run!

Jackie and I had a good laugh about it and later I told Thom and he had a good laugh too.

I've been recovering most of today. I've decided to postpone the rest of the bootcamp training till after my race. Although I've gotten great results in two weeks from the bootcamp, my glutes are still too sore to run long distances.

I did my strength training this morning and I'll do some yoga tonight. Afterall, I'm still a workout-a-holic and a weight-loss junkie.
