My Path to Healing My Ankle

I finally feel like I am truly on the road to recovery. After a lot of research, a lot of phone calls, a lot more tears, a free visit with a PT, a free quick consult with a Podiatrist, and some support from my friends, I decided to go to a chiropractor. Yep, for my foot.

One of the things the tendons and soft tissue in my ankle need is a treatment to stimulate blood flow to aide in healing. The podiatrist told me that it hasn't scarred which was good but I did need treatment and mentioned ultrasound. That's when it all clicked. I don't need to pay twice or three times the money for a specialist, I just need an alternative treatment.

I also found that it's cheaper for me to be a cash patient and forgo my insurance. It's not really great insurance coverage anyway as I pay for it myself and had to increase the deductible last year to be able to afford it each month.

My good friends Mary and Jackie, each offered great alternatives. I opted for the chiropractor that was closer to work and he squeezed me in on Monday at lunchtime. I've never been to a chiropractor before but he was very helpful and put me at ease. He used the ultrasound and realigned the bones in my left foot. I also got my back popped and a calf and ankle massage.

He believed that if we are on the right track, I should be able to run the treadmill soon. He wanted me to see how I feel and if on Friday I thought I was better to make another appointment next week to continue the ultrasound treatment. In the meantime, he recommended I take it easy this week.

I also purchased a homeopathic herbal formula gel recommended by Mary, *tendon rescue* by peaceful mountain to help stimulate recovery. It feels nice and the act of massaging the gel into my ankle three times a day should stimulate blood flow at the same time.

I have renewed HOPE. And I have a plan for recovery. My Grand Canyon hike is only 67 days away and I'm really looking forward to the adventure leading up to it as well as the hike itself!
