My Teen Life As I Know It

Observations

I took a morning jog.

I like observing people. I don't quite remember when it was exactly that I started this little habit of mine. Put me in a shopping mall and I can sit there all day just looking at people.

So I plugged in my earphones and started my jog. On my way, I saw a familiar man jog pass me. I can recognize this person anywhere because he has been the only person who wears sunglasses all the time when he works out. I remember the first time I saw him - a few months back - I thought he was a drug addict at first because he didn't seem to take off his shades no matter how dark the sky had become. But the moment he did those chin-ups, I concluded that he was way fitter than me - or maybe he was a very, very healthy drug addict.

As I passed the basketball court I noticed that there was a different bunch of teenagers playing. The usual group was nowhere to be seen, and this group was less entertaining than the previous ones - amateurs. Oh wait. There was this kid who used to play with the previous group. He was there mingling with the new group. He sure grew about a foot taller - but his skills never changed.

There was this one basketball court that was always abandoned whenever I pass it. But today, it was filled with 'Tai chi' enthusiasts. What caught my attention was not the group of older people strutting their stuff, but the small group of kids - probably around 5 to 6 years old learning the skill itself from someone their own age! A boy was teaching them 'Tai chi' with a sword and he was doing it with full of grace and skill. I slowed down my pace as I watched him.

As I moved on to the work-out station, a place where some gym equipments are provided for the public, I met this guy who used to be one of the basketball players in the old group. He was one of those players who I used to observe a lot. He was an amazing basketball player. He has the skills, the agility, the speed and the accuracy. What surprised me was how much he has changed. From a 101% fit athlete he now looks slightly bloated and flabby. He was struggling to even do 5 chin-ups. There's one less dude to gaga about.

I proceeded to my favorite mini-mart. I didn't bring along any money, I just wanted to say hello to the shopkeeper who knows me from my days of buying junk food and stationeries from his shop. He looked old, which was quite unusual because his shop was expanding - which means business is getting better. He still knows me though, and there was the usual "how are you doing" conversation.

At last, I walked home and picked up the mail.

I entered the house, my dad was fixing some pipes in the bathroom - he's Mr Fix-It-All.

It's not just today that I noticed changes have taken place. I'm just pointing out that as we move on, things will always continue to evolve.

Some things change. Some don't.

I don't know which I prefer.

My mom and a couple neighbor ladies walk the mall, too. They love it. It gives them the opportunity to chat and gossip -- two things my mom doesn't get enough of apparently.
It is a good year-round activity!
