Road Trip!

Yesterday Hubby and I went on a road trip to Huntsville, Ala.  Not to visit the space center or something we have done before.  This was to experience a new element of entertainment. New for us, anyway!
Every year they have a production called "Festival of Sacred Christmas Music".  All proceeds go toward a group that works with children of abuse and teens that need guidance because they have none at home...if they even have a home.  It is the Children's Advocacy and Teen Think Tank.  What a wonderful job these people do to help children and teens.  These kids are our future...we need to help them overcome bad situations and know they are important and loved.
Back to the festival.  It was three hours of the most incredible musical performances I've seen in a long time.  It started out with the obligatory mezzo-soprano (from the NY Met Opera no less!) singing "O Holy Night".  That set the tone! From there it progressed to a family of four siblings who started playing violins in utero.  They were all teens but you would have thought they had a hundred years worth of experience. If you ever have an opportunity to hear the Lamb Family (aka Three Lambs and a Ram due to three sisters and one brother!) don't miss it.  You will be amazed.
Blue Grass.  Who would have thought it?? Blue Grass is a staple of life in the south and it fit in nicely with this festival.  The mandolin, banjo, bass fiddle and guitar made very happy seasonal music and I saw many feet tapping in rhythm!
Mark Lowry provided the comedy.  Oh my! If you have never experienced his humor...I feel sorry for you.  I've heard him many times before and he just gets better and better.  It was hard to believe this funny, witty man also wrote the glorious song "Mary Did You Know" that has been recorded by Kenny Rogers, Reba McIntire and many others.
After many excellent performances the program closed with a complete ensemble singing the Hallejuah Chorus from Handle's "Messiah".
I never one time thought of the presents or crowds at the mall or the situation of the economy. All I thought about was the joy of the season and the reason we have to celebrate.
I wanted to leave the Von Braun Center and shout to the world:
HAPPY HOLIDAYS
SEASONS GREETINGS
NO, a thousand times no! I wanted to shout:
M E R R Y    C H R I S T M A S ! ! ! ! !
Mz Scarlett...Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells
