I got a phone call, then a few e-mails, then several people stopped to talk to me in person. We all had the same shocked expression and utter disbelief at the news as it spread through our little part of the world.
Sheriff Steve Wilson (Walker County, GA) has announced he has Multiple Myeloma. This is a mean, nasty cancer that is very invasive and must be fought with everything possible. It attacks the plasma and burrows into the bones causing much pain, suffering and sickness. There is nothing good about any cancer, but this one is quite mean.
He is my friend. He and my brother went through police academy together. They have been partners, friends and cops together for many years. More than 20 years. He is a special person in my life.
Now they are both fighting different battles. My brother is in prison waiting for the appeals process to try to clear him of a crime he didn't commit. Steve is fighting a disease that is trying to take his life. Both are good men. Both need your support in thoughts, prayers and whatever you use to send good vibes their way.
My brother has me for support. Steve has me for support. Will you join me to lift us both these men as they fight different wars.
