So after hearing so many terrific reviews, I finally watched the musical "Once" last night. You may have heard about it as it won the Oscar this year for Best Original Song, "Falling Slowly".
The movie is super indie, made for only about $150,000. On the behind the scenes feature, the director shared how he insisted on a micro-budget so that there'd be no studio pressure. He just wanted everyone to have fun with the project.
The story takes place in Dublin and the plot is very simplistic, as it's really just a platform for the music. Guy Busker meets Girl Immigrant, and they spend the week together writing, rehearsing and recording music together. It's kind of a love story, and yet, kind of not. I think that's what I really enjoyed about it. In some ways, I found it very easy to relate to. I won't spill any spoilers and tell you how the story ends, but even if the story doesn't interest you, it's well worth a watch just for an hour n' a half of lovely tunes.
This morning I awoke to J wasting no time and already plucking away on his guitar quickly mastering the song, "Falling Slowly".
So on that note, with the pretty little song stuck in my head, I thought I'd share it with those of you who haven't had the pleasure of hearing it yet. (And for those folks with dial-up who can't watch video, I've also included the lyrics.)
Enjoy! I know I did. :)
I don't know you
But I want you
All the more for that
Words fall through me
And always fool me
And I can't react
And games that never amount
To more than they're meant
Will play themselves out
Take this sinking boat and point it home
We've still got time
Raise your hopeful voice you have a choice
You've made it now
Falling slowly, eyes that know me
And I can't go back
Moods that take me and erase me
And I'm painted black
You have suffered enough
And warred with yourself
It's time that you won
Take this sinking boat and point it home
We've still got time
Raise your hopeful voice you had a choice
You've made it now
Take this sinking boat and point it home
We've still got time
Raise your hopeful voice you had a choice
You've made it now
Falling slowly sing your melody
I'll sing along
