This World

Sometimes it breaks my heart...

I was driving home for lunch when I saw a dead baby deer on the side of the 4 lane highway. I gasped and said Oh My Gawd! One second later I saw a second one. Those poor things!!! One most likely saw the other one get hit and panicked and gawd, it just breaks my heart to think about them in their final moments of their short lives...

Then I saw a truck full of goats go by. Where were they going? I can only imagine it wasn't to greener pastures. Were they wondering what the f was going on? Were they scared and confused? It breaks my heart. I am sure all they wanted was to be in a grassy field relaxing and eating like they do best.

People have asked me before how I can pick just one cause since there are soooo many things that we can do as people to help to make the world a better place. There is a lot to be done after all.

I can answer for myself in this fashion. First, being a vegetarian is not really a cause. It's a stance, but it doesn't take up any of my time. I can eat rice or I can eat a steak, it's essentially the same amount of time spent.

Second, if someone beats a child or abuses a child in any way shape or form, you can almost guarantee that there will be repercussions by law and society in general. When there are starving people or people who have been struck by a catastrophe there are many people and agencies who step in to provide food. If someone beats a cow in a factory farm, does any law stand that will protect that cow? No, there aren't. The abuser will just go on to the next. Does anyone care about the pigs squealing or cows screaming in sheer terror when they understand that their impending death via conveyor belt is coming? You can answer that by figuring out when you last had a burger, steak, ham, bacon or pork with a solid No. You may find it sad, but not enough to act on, and I am a firm believer in being the change I want to see.

I am not being preachy or self righteous. I hate it when people call me that. I am simply giving you my point of view. People will do as they wish for as long as they can. It's human nature. People are resistant to change. I decided 15 years ago to change, and that is something I am proud of.

A lot of people will say "Kristy you are a bleeding heart" Or something along the lines of "who cares about the cow, it's just food."

To me they are all my little Kraymer's. They all deserve a respectful and a dignified life. If we kill them for food, at least allow them to LIVE first. They used to on family farms. That is just not the case for the majority of them anymore...

But I digress...

Sometimes this world just breaks my heart...

The world we live in kills me too. Having had cows and named them all and made pets of them, I know they have personalities just like dogs, cats, horses and other animals. I find that I am less inclined to be a meat eater as time goes by.
