Hi Y’all!
To tell the truth, I don’t have a whole lot to say, but for some reason I think this will end up being a long post anyway. It’s amazing how saying so little can take up so many words, huh?
School vs. VA Job
I still haven’t really decided just what I’m going to do.
Well, here’s the problem: If I do get hired on at the VA, then I won’t need to get my Associates Degree in Med Assisting. Also I won’t need to get my Pharmacy Tech certification either. The whole plan for the Pharm Tech cert was so I could get a job. But if I already have one, why continue on with this school?
The next complication is that this semester ends on the 12th of June. The new mini-semester begins on the 22nd so I have to make up my mind in the next week or so. The job open period at the VA ends the 11th and then the job interviews will begin then. I was told by the HR guy at the VA to expect an phone call. Just what that will get me is yet to be determined…
But again, getting the job at the VA is not set in stone, though I think I have a good chance at getting it. So, the question is, do I continue on with classes whether or not I get called for an interview? Another complication is the VA takes a very long time to actually put someone it hires to work. It has to do with all of the background checks and stuff like that. None of that concerns me (the background checks), but the time frame is what bothers me. I have about 10 weeks left on unemployment and even if they do say they will hire me, it could be 3-5 months before I start actually working for the VA.
I told M that if push comes to shove, I’ll keep up with the Pharmacy Tech classes, and get a job at Wal-Mart or Lowes or McDonalds to get some cash into the house when the unemployment runs out. Hell, it may seem that something like that is beneath me (because I have SO much to offer, don’t ya know!), but work is work and I can’t continue to be choosy when there are bills to be paid. Who knows, with my background I may end up managing a McD’s or something… No, that would be way too much stress for me to put up with!
So…
The Future:
I’ve been looking into different colleges in the area with an eye to my future and what I will eventually do. There are so many options right now that it is confusing me a bit (not like it’s that hard to do anyway!). I do know I want to eventually get my Occupational Therapy degree, or maybe Physical Therapy degree or, hell, something along those lines.
The thing is, getting a degree or even starting towards a degree is so far into the future, that it’s more of a dream than a plan at this point. Everything is so uncertain, even looking towards the end of this month, that I feel as though everything I do, or don’t do is almost pointless.
I do know that I have to keep moving forward. One way or another I have to keep some kind of goal in mind. I just think I’ll have to be flexible in those goals and be able to change which goal is important at the drop of a hat. Man I really hate uncertainty.
Some good news:
After 3 months I finally received my handgun permit from the State of Tennessee! Yay! That means that the TBI (Tennessee Bureau of Investigations) has completed my background check and I’m not a terrorist or wanted by anyone in the US! Now you know why I’m not worried about the background check for the VA! If I do get the interview, maybe I should refer them to the TBI for the background check!
Hunting & Fishing Association:
Tonight is our monthly meeting. I have a feeling that I am about to become much more involved in the running of the group. I have advanced a few ideas to the guys in charge of the Assoc. and I think that I may end up in charge of the Membership rolls and maintaining the Membership information.
The current guy doing this is, for lack of a better term, old, and doesn’t use a computer very well. Right now we don’t know who is current in their membership dues, just how many people we actually have in the Assoc. or who has paid their range fees!
I’ve already set up a file in my Outlook to take care of the whole thing. On top of that this guy has been issuing membership cards that are just cut down sheets of paper with him writing the information in by hand! This looks like crap and the card falls apart so easily in your wallet! I made up some things here on the laptop using pictures I’ve taken and using business card stock I bought from Wally World to make a professional looking membership card. If I do get to take over this part I’m going to ask for a laminating machine, so the cards will hold up for a full year, before they need to be renewed.
This same guy is the Assoc. treasurer and he is rarely up to date on the accounts, even when he knows that today is the day of the meeting. I personally don’t want anything to do with the money side of the business, but the Assoc. secretary knows that I’m taking an accounting course right now and somehow I think he wants me to take that over too.
Well, like I said earlier, it’s amazing how saying so little uses so many words!
