I’m Alive…

10 Mar 2009 Tuesday

Yes I survived the pukey/squirty phase of what-the-hell-ever it was that I had last week. I found out that several friends from the bowling alley had gone through the same thing so it must have been some bug going around.

I started out sick on Tuesday night and I didn’t eat until Friday morning. Wasn’t sure if I could. When I puked I really tore up my throat. I lived on water and store brand Gator-Aid the whole time. I didn’t even begin to feel strong until Saturday morning, but I would still have bouts of weakness.

Oh, and I lost 8 pounds in the process. Definitely not good!

So this is what is going on:

Today I feel wonderful. The last few days here in East Tennessee have been in the low 70’s and sunny so I’ve been out on the bike every single day.

I’ve even went so far as to go through all the seeds for the garden and pick out what worked last year and what didn’t and get some new seeds that we want to try out.

I really want to get started on the garden but it is too early. I know that there will be at least one or two more freezes before the end of the month so I’m holding out for the beginning of April before I start putting in the garden.

M has already started an herb garden in pots on the back porch so we can bring them inside should it get too cold outside. The problem is, M has a “Brown Thumb” and is known for killing anything green. She has admitted that she managed to kill a silk plant once. No, don’t ask me how she managed to do it, ‘cause she won’t tell me either.

I will be going into town today and picking up some peat pellets to begin growing some plants inside the house. I think I’ll start out with some corn, green beans, cucumbers, romaine lettuce, and tomatoes, the things that will produce through the whole summer and fall.

I know the corn doesn’t do that but what I will be doing is planting in cycles. About every two or three weeks I’ll plant 10-15 new sprouts that way when they’ve grown, then we will have fresh corn available every couple of weeks through the summer!

This year we will be doing 2 cherry tomato plants and 2 Better Boy Hybrid tomato plants. The Better Boy tomatoes are a bit bigger than a baseball so they are excellent for slicing and stewing. Last year we did just the cherry tomatoes and we ended up giving them away and throwing them away because we had so many! So this year just the two plants and not eight! But I love the cherry tomatoes in a salad, so I’ve got to have ‘em!

Hand Gun Permit Class:

We’ve scheduled our next handgun permit class for the 23rd and 24th of this month. So I’m putting together a flyer and talking to the local gun shops and sporting goods stores to promote it. I have also been doing some research on my own.

There has been some debate in the class as to what the proper procedure is should you get pulled over by the police while there is a handgun either on you or in the vehicle. So I’ve been going around and interviewing the local sheriff’s deputies, police officers and State troopers to get their take on what we, as responsible citizens, can do to make things better/safer for the police and ourselves in that situation. So far I’ve had some interesting responses to that question.

Well that’s it for now. I’ve got to go to NTO (Next Town Over) to the dentist and get this temporary crown replaced with the permanent one, so I gotta get a move on.
