Mumbling To Myself

Hi There Everyone!

11 November 2009

Well. First things first. Happy Veterans Day to all my fellow Veterans. Today I get to eat dinner at Applebee’s for free. But I’ll be by myself. M has today off from work and I’m here at school, where I should be studying, but since I’ve been missing y’all so much I’m here writing instead.

School is Sucking:

For the most part I’m pretty sick of school. I think it has more to do with the damn goofy schedule I got stuck with than anything else. I’m doing pretty well in most of the classes with the notable exception of Intro to Microbiology. The first exam I got 89% which was pretty good, but the second exam I got a 72%, which pissed me off to no end. We will be getting the results of the third exam tomorrow. The class consensus was that the third test was a massive pain in the butt. I’m fairly certain that I failed it, despite devoting some very serious study time to the subject.

You would think that with an “Intro” course that we would be more concerned with the broader concepts and such. NO! I was trying to learn the names, shapes, sources, causes, and symptoms of about a hundred bacteria and viruses along with the different classes of each. Sheesh! And on top of that, if the teacher happens to mention something about what we are talking about, (you know, just off the top of her head) it can end up on the test. “I mentioned it in class!”

What she seems to not understand is that she has spent the last 25 years as a clinical microbiologist and these things are second nature to her. We haven’t had that. And consequently her tests are massively hard.

Oh well. I guess I’ll just study even more.

At Home:

M is just getting over a bad cold (or the H1N1, who knows). Last week Tuesday she came home from work early and crashed into the bed. She didn’t really get out of the bed until Friday evening and she’s been sluggish and weak since then. Yesterday was the first day she actually had some energy in a long time.

I’ve been either having bad allergies and flirting with a cold, or just allergies. I haven’t been able to breathe through my nose in weeks.

The best day was last Monday, and I think it was because I rode the motorcycle to school. It was pretty cold when I left the house (about 39°F or so) but it warmed up that afternoon to fairly pleasant. I love it when I get to force-feed oxygen to my brain!

M took off on my bike last Sunday for a ride. Her bike is torn apart right now. She has the tank off of it so she can fill in the dents with Bondo and then paint it later. She was getting a little stir-crazy from being stuck in the house while sick so she swiped my bike for an hour and a half.

My church has asked me to help out with a service that they have for folks who are sick or in nursing homes. We try to take communion to them on Sunday when they ask for it, and do a little bible study too. We’ve had several folks move off to college out of state, and a few more got married and now attend church someplace else, so the church needed someone to help pick up the slack. I’ve been wanting to get a bit more involved in my church, and this is a good way to do that.

I’m thinking of submitting some of my photos and poetry to the college arts magazine called “Echoes and Images”. I’ve got several photos I’m evaluating and I think I’ll submit one or two of my “Confessions of a Poetry Snob” posts and see what happens. I have a few poems at home on the desk that I wrote in the last few weeks, but none that really jump out at me.

Well, I guess that’s it for now. Missing you guys…
