Mumbling To Myself

Been Awhile…

19 October 2009

I just realized that I haven’t posted anything for over 20 days. I wish I could write more often but it would seem being unemployed is harder than I thought!

But between school and the Hunting & Fishing Assoc I seem to have very little time to myself for those little pleasures like reading my friends here on MyBloggers. But today I’m on “Fall Break” from school and I’ve already spent the morning studying, so here I am to finally tell y’all what’s going on in my life.

East Tennessee Tonight: Probably not gonna happen. Apparently my friend John was all excited for a whole week until he told me about it. Then once I got to thinking about it, and beginning to like the idea, John lost interest. I’m still thinking about it, and how I can get it started. The local University has a Media Arts program and a local TV channel has their own morning show. I’m wondering if I can somehow combine the two and get someone to foot the bill to do the actual shooting of this thing (the University) and get it on You-Tube, and maybe get the TV station to produce it and then maybe start a following by mentioning ETT on the morning TV show.

The format would be between 10 and 15 minutes long. We’d begin with 2-4 minutes of opening monologue, then about 3-5 minute interview with a local celebrity, sports person or a University Professor, or maybe a local politician, whatever is available. Then we’d have a band interview, and then the band would close with a song. Then do a short closing and re-introduce the band for the crowd.

I’m thinking of alternating locations between two local bars that are big in the East Tennessee music scene. One does country and bluegrass, the other does rock and alterative type stuff. If I can get them on board that would be awesome. Then we could tape every Friday or Saturday night between sets of bands and intro the next band… I mean there is usually a 10-15 minute break between bands already, why not do something with the time? And the bars would get free advertising too, right?

Oh well, probably just another one of my “pie-in-the-sky” ideas that will never happen. But man, it would be a hell of a lotta fun to do!

School: So far I’m pretty happy with my grades except in the Microbiology class. My last exam I got an 89% and I was pretty mad. We just had a second exam in Micro last week, and I’m kinda worried about that one too. The teacher likes to throw in things from the lab section (which is a completely separate grade, and I don’t have her for my lab!) so I’m not there when she says, “Now pay attention, this might be important!” like she does in the Lecture part of class. So, number one: I don’t like her. She is a lousy teacher. She reads right out of the book. Hell I can do that too, gimme a job! Number two: she likes to use completely irrelevant facts in her exams (and usually they sound ridiculous), like who ever heard that they use armadillos (the actual animal, not some machine called an armadillo) to culture leprosy? But since she mentioned it, once, makes it fair game for the exam. Whatever. I’m done bitching about it.

In my other classes I’m doing very good. So far I’m pulling all high A’s in the other classes. The Philosophy is still pretty difficult, but I don’t have to understand it to just remember things. Boy that sounded odd, didn’t it?

I’m loving the World Lit class. The Technology in Society is easy, mainly because I probably know more about Industrial Revolution technology than the teacher does! My A&P class is pretty hard, but I put together a pretty good group of people to study with, consisting of several Adult students like myself, so we don’t BS too much and really buckle down and learn things!

Over all, I checked into the local University on their Nursing Program and talked to the Dean. It might get pretty hard to get into the program. Last year they had over 300 students apply for 110 spots in the program. The lowest GPA was a 3.1, but I have that pretty much in the bag. They’ll drop any grades over 5 years old and re-calculate the GPA. (I had a bad year back in the late 90’s and it killed my GPA) So I think I have a good shot at getting in the Nursing Program! I just have to keep up my current grades!

Hunting & Fishing Assoc: I’ve been really working the beat on getting info out on the handgun permit class. I managed to get it in the local paper this time and I’ve been getting phone calls for the last couple of weeks. Last month we only had one person show up for the class, this month I think we should have 15 or more. I think it’ll actually be nearer to 25, but you never know. People will say that they’ll show up and then don’t. But there has been a ton of interest this time around, so we’ll see this evening!

I bought another pistol this past weekend at a Sheriff’s auction. When I got home I looked it up on the internet. I paid too much for a piece of junk… I didn’t eve think to use my Blackberry to go online at the auction and find out about it before bidding. Stupid me. I really hate wasting money when it’s so hard to come by these days.

Other stuff: M is down to 179 pounds. For those of you who don’t know, she had Lap-Band surgery on her stomach a year and a half ago to help her lose weight. The day before her surgery she weighed 269 pounds. At one point she was close to 300 pounds. It’s been a long, slow process, but she’s very happy about it. She feels sexy again and yesterday we went shopping at Kohls for some winter clothes for her. I spotted a dress in the discount rack and had her try it on. Whoo-Hoo! Hot momma!!!

That’s all I got for now! Love and miss you guys!
