The Diet

Not too much happening today. The whole dieting thing is beginning to irritate me though. Today during lunch I was re-reading the info from Weight Watchers and I need to buy some fruits and veggies for snacks here at work. Too many of the things I have here are too high in points for me to eat as much as I need to, to feel full, or at least not hungry anymore.

Today after work I’m gonna hit the gym. I need to spend more time doing cardio and less time on the weights. I wish I could use the elliptical machine but for some reason my feet go numb so I stick with the treadmill to get the old heart rate up. I usually do 30 minutes at a fast walk (about 3.8 mph).

Pain

Lately my feet have been hurting again. My doctor keeps telling me I need surgery on both feet but I refuse to be out of work for six weeks to have it done. I keep telling her that it doesn't hurt enough to have the surgery. When it does hurt enough to justify surgery, I'll have it done then and only then.

New Job Maybe

Well I never made it to the gym yesterday. I ended up going to the VA to check on a job. I recently applied for a job there and I found out that the job was reserved for certain veterans and technically I didn't qualify. After reviewing my veterans info they said that I could apply to get the info changed so that I qualify for the job.

Supposedly many veterans from my time were supposed to receive this combat ribbon, but somehow it was overlooked during the years I was in service. So I was supposed to get it and didn't.

The bad thing for right now is the VA is supposed to be going through a hiring freeze starting next month (end of the fiscal year). And from what I was told yesterday was it could take 6-8 weeks to get my info changed.

It would be nice to work the same schedule that my wife does (she is an OR nurse at the VA hospital here) and at the same location (just not the same building tho!), that way we can ride together to and from work and save some cash in gas. Right now I drive 35 miles one-way to work and M drives 20 miles one-way.

Right now I work the first half hour each day just to pay for the gas to get to and from work, if I drive my car. Today is the first time I've driven my car in almost two weeks and I wouldn't have done it today except I had to bring in a part of my riding mower to get it welded.

Boy, I just keep adding on to this one.

The Diet (again some more)

Today is Weight Watchers. I weighed myself this morning on the cargo scales here at work and the preliminary estimate is I lost three pounds or so. I may skip lunch today just to keep the weight down before weigh-in. It's almost lunch now and I'm a bit hungry, so I'll probably eat something anyway.

Before y’all start bitchin' at me, no I'm not skipping meals. I know that's not good for me to do because it sends the wrong signals to the body.

I did make it to the gym last night though. 30 minutes on the treadmill and a short workout with the weights just to keep things toned. I've been so tired lately for some reason that it's really hurting my ambition to go to the gym.

On the drive home from work I get so sleepy that I've just about fallen asleep on the motorcycle a few times. Yeah that's bad. And it's not like I'm not going to bed at a good time, I'm just not sleeping well through the night. I've found out that I go through cycles of not sleeping well every few months. I don't know if it's stress or what, but it happens.

Later

Well I'm eating lunch now. I'm eating a Healthy Choice Café Steamers. These things are a bit expensive, but they do taste pretty good and you get a good portion too. The Weight Watchers Smart Ones meals are just too small to make me, well not full, or not hungry either, so I end up eating something with it. This whole Steamer is only 5 points and will fill me up.

TA-DAH!!

I did my weigh-in! I lost 5, yes five whole pounds this week!! YAY ME!!! I’m going to stick with counting my points and keeping track of all that I eat. Obviously it seems to be working, so I’m gonna keep on going with it!

I think I made it easier for myself because I eat enough during the day and leave enough points to eat supper with M as long as I keep my portions reasonable. This way I’m not putting her out and we can still have supper together. (Plus she’s a damn fine cook!!)

This and That

On the way home from work I stopped by Lowes to look at their stoves. I had bought a used glass top stove about 9 months ago and a few days ago the oven quit working. This is after the original oven we bought with the house, crapped out on us prompting me the buy the used one…

Well I have to say I seem to get very lucky when I shop for high dollar items at our local Lowes store. I bought a dishwasher once that was originally $298 and I got it for $100 (plus tax). Well today I did a bit of shopping and picked up a glass top stove for a really good price. It was the last one of a discontinued model, and a floor model too… 20% off. I saved about $100 on a brand new Frigidaire stove!

Then when M got home I took her out to dinner and told her I needed to stop at Lowes to get some fuel line for the riding lawn mower. Then I casually said, “Hey, let’s go look at the stoves while we’re here.” Ha-Ha! I showed her a couple of them and then one of the sales guys’ looks up and says, “Hey, we set your stove over here so it would be out of the way.” M looked at me with this funny grin and says, “Where is it?!?”

I already got it installed here at home and M is already planning on cooking something just to test out the new machine.

Now I just have to find a good deal on one of those front load washing machines…

Yay on the five pounds. And boo about wanting to fall asleep on the bike. I go through spells like that. Try some meditation when you can't sleep...simply counting in sets of 10 will work--if you lose count, start over. Acknowledge your thoughts simply as thoughts and let them float away instead of obsessing on them. Once you get the hang of it you will feel better with less sleep, if that makes any sense at all.

why exactly do they want to do surgery on your feet? I had surgery done last year on one (to remove a bone) and it was HORRIFIC. I can't imagine doing it on both feet.

lowes is a great place to find good deals, we buy all of our appliances there. and great work on the diet! losing weight is so hard! my weight loss had tapered off until I went back to work, then it started dropping again. so I guess standing for 8 hours is a workout.
