Well I survived the quick turn-around at work yesterday. I only got about five hours of sleep between third shift Sunday night and then second shift on Monday. That's the only bad thing about doing this is I drive 30 miles/ 45 minutes each way to and from work and it really cuts into my snooze time.
But by the end of second shift on Monday my body was pretty whipped but my mind was still pretty sharp so I wasn't nodding off on the drive home.
I woke up this morning when M's alarm went off and I couldn't get back to sleep for about two hours but I went back to bed about 7am and slept until about 930am.
11 Jan 2009 Sunday
Yeah, I know. It’s been a while. I have survived the first week of the strange shift work. But it wasn’t too bad. It was actually pretty nice to be left alone for the most part.
I think I’m the only one who actually works on second shift. By the time 3pm rolls around and second shift is in full effect, everyone seems to disappear. I start second shift at 1pm and get out at 9pm when the real second shift begins at 3pm and goes to 11pm. But my first shift guy likes to work 5am to 1pm so I really don’t mind.
But by 5pm every one goes on break and I just keep working. And from then on every time I look around, I’m the only one there. I only take a break when it’s time to eat my supper and I usually eat it at the machine I’m running.
In an odd development, the boss who is going to be running the new product line has made it a habit to come and talk with me every day at about 4pm just before he leaves for the day. One or two of the guys that were hired to work the new line has been fired. I know for sure one has been fired, and I’m pretty sure the second one is either gone or on the way out the door for incompetence. So the rumor going around is that I will be getting an offer to go to the new product line once they have it set up and running.
Our guys form our plant will probably not be going to Europe a second time due to the union in Holland pitching a fit over us going there and training and not being a part of their union. So they will not be sending our guys back there but importing a few of the Holland guys out here to finish training our US guys.
In another odd development, I have applied for a position with the US Gubmint for a job working for the local ROTC Company. The pay is substantially better than my current job and it sounds like it would be very interesting as well, and as a side benefit, the health and retirement is REALLY good! They are looking for someone with inventory experience and ability to run a big rig which would mean getting my CDL back along with a HAZMAT endorsement. I used to be in charge of a warehouse and I used to be a truck driver also! The HAZMAT would be because they need someone to transport weapons, ammo and other equipment. I might have to do some traveling but that’s OK.
I sold my old truck this past week so I’ll have some extra cash to lay out on my bills.
Our kitty Tasselhof has been really sick this past week and when M took him in Thursday night the vet really didn’t think he’d survive to Friday morning. He’s feeling well enough today to be really fighting with us when M goes to give him his shots. The vet trusts M enough (she’s an OR nurse) to give him the shots so we don’t have to visit the vet’s office twice a day over the weekend. We’ll see what those bill will be like on Monday!
Well it’s after 1am in the morning so I’m going to bed…
