Question?

I have a question I'm not sure about. If you read something and wanted to "copy and paste"  it, and you included where it came from, in otherwords credited the author. Is THAT copyright infringment? I saw an article on Max Lucado's site and started to copy and paste it here but I noticed "copyright" blah blah blah, and didn't want to do that without being sure I wasn't violating anything. I wouldn't have changed anything and would have credited the site. I would appreciate your comments.

Some people are really sensitive about this, while others are not. There is so much copyright infringement now that most just turn a blind eye. Technically, it is still infringement. I was copying some material and giving the author credit until I received an e-mail from the author informing me that although I was giving credit, it was still a violation of copyright laws. The individual asked me to desist and to erase my previous posts. A lot of smaller sites and writers actually have it programmed in their html to forward them a copy anytime someone posts one of their copyrighted posts. Larger firms don't have the time to worry about it usually. You can always include the URL to refer people to it after you discuss in your own words what the post is about. Hope this was helpful. I still occasionally cheat a little on this if I think I can get away with it. After all, google has already stolen it as has MSN, Yahoo, AOL and who knows how many others.

I thought as long as you give the author credit you would be ok but I am not positive.

I don't see anything wrong with doing it as long as you aren't doing it for profit or making money off of his copyright--but, just in case, what should I bring you when I visit you in jail???
Seriously, it is done all the time and as long as you give him credit it shouldn't be a problem--does he have an e-mail address where you an ask him for permission to copy it?
