HALL OF FAMER FELLER PASSES AWAY AT 92
December 15, 2010 – Indians legend and Hall of Famer Bob Feller died in Cleveland at 9:15 p.m. on Wednesday of acute leukemia. He was 92. Born in Van Meter, Iowa, in 1918, Feller made his big league debut in 1936, four months before his 18th birthday. Before his career ended on Sept. 30, 1956, he had won 266 games, struck out 2,581 batters, pitched three no-hitters, 12 one-hitters and 44 shutouts and won a pitchers' Triple Crown. He led the league in victories six times and strikeouts seven times. He produced those numbers despite missing nearly four seasons because of military service - he enlisted in the Navy the day after Pearl Harbor. One can only imagine where four more full seasons, would have put his final numbers. This true baseball hero will be missed by Indians fans and the baseball world.

We will miss you, Bullet Bob. I saw him many times and actually met him in person once. He threw 100 mph fastballs and one was clocked at 103. He is the only MLB pitcher to ever toss a no-hitter on opening day (1940). He was the first player to enlist during the war.
