Rainy Day Notes ...

Going to Motor City today to pick up an uncle at the Detroit Wayne County Airport. He is returning from Midland TX where he went for the funeral of his 24-year-old grandson, Christopher, who died in a totally unnecessary gun accident.

No gun death is ever an "accident."

Why grown men play with loaded pistols, I'll never know.

The tragedy will go on. Another part of the tragic event: I never once even met my cousin.

............

I finished the autumn scene "pretty" painting last night and framed it, hung it up. I think I'll name it OCTOBER FIRE. It is raining here in River City so I can't drag it out for a photograph. You can't use flash on paintings. The light burns out and reflects like a mirror. Bounced sunlight, diffused, is best. I usually take about a half dozen digital pics of a painting, slap them on the computer, and pick the best. Then I get it better in Photoshop.

............

My Columbus patron will be here tomorrow (Thursday.) I have straightened up the place, but there is more to do. I wouldn't want him to think I live like an "artist." LOL

............

Laterz...

PS: Welcome back off the Appalachian Trail, Cindylou! My first wife and I did about half of the trail long, long ago. It took parts of four summers, three or four pairs of boots, and some poison ivy treatment. Beautiful, except for the weather!

My sincere condolences on your loss. It is a terrible thing to lose a family member.

Because I live near Chicago, I get my radio news from there. Hardly a day passes anymore without another child, ranging in age from infants to 18 year olds, being victims of accidental or deliberate gun violence. It seems all there is to do is pray for the survivors, because the NRA isn't going to let anybody do anything to change it.

Yeah, it would be nice if cats would puke in the kitchen or bathroom

You are right when we were kids we knew what a gun could do.

Rainy and gloomy here today. How was the ride to the airport? I probably passed you on I-94.

So sorry about your cousin's tragedy. The gun culture still consumes many.

I'd love to travel the Appalachian trail but it doesn't seem I will get the chance. Ed is definitely a believer in amenities and I don't think he would rough it. He refused to join a Civil War Reenactment group in Gettysburg (a passion of his) when he learned they would actually camp out on the fields. He said, "I need my own bathroom."

Too cool about the Appalachian trail! I was on it for about a second once... it was part of another trail I was on...
sorry you didn't get to meet your cousin.

So sorry about the grandson of your uncle. I don't know the circumstances but guns must be taken very seriously. It sounds as though this was an avoidable death, which makes it all the more tragic.

Sorry to hear about your great nephew. Have a safe trip. I'm glad you finished your painting and I'm looking forward to seeing a picture of it. It is a beautiful day here in Southern Oregon. The sun is up and shinning on a very frosty morning. Of course, JR is out hunting that elusive prize buck and I'm trying to keep warm by the wood stove.

You have a great day, Jon.

My wife and I put some time in on the AT years ago as well and, like you noted, all was fine save for the weather. It rained almost every day we were out there.

If your place doesn't look like an artist's, eclectic space, then he won't think you're serious
