Where is the Petition?

Where is the online petition to the White House that says "WHOA! BACK OFF YOUR ILL-CONCEIVED PLAN TO GO TO WAR IN SYRIA!"

I will sign it.

No petition so far, so I think most of the left-leaning groups as well as the right-wingers are behind the plan to jump into the Syrian civil war.

After all, war is good for business, isn't it? And it will take the media focus off poor Miley Cyrus!

My take is this... I was in the Army and learned this lesson: If you want to fight, you must want to win. The way we should handle all these brushfire wars is to go in with immediate massive forces, take out our objectives (the chemical weapons, President Assad's person or his body, and anything else we consider a danger to the world) and then immediately leave. Case closed.

I heard this morning that 91 percent of Americans are against intervention. That in itself should give you pause. Say what you will about another disastrous war (assuming that we go about it as badly as the last time) but do you really think we should led Assad kill his citizens with poison gas and look the other way? We can't let Bush's behavior, so grievously wrong, be the measure of all future foreign policy. And, of course, if we never, ever go to war for what we believe, why do we need the military? Could it be that the slippery slope of rogue nations always having their way might at one point bite us in the ass?

Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones have split! That is going too push Syria to the back page!

at the Miley Cyrus comments ---reading Google news this morning you can see where Saudi Arabia has offered Russia a deal on oil if they support action on Syria

I'd make them a deal too, but they would have to throw in a lot of good vodka.

I'm still puzzling over whether I'd rather die from exploding bombs or gas. I suspect to victims, the distinction is blurred in the pain and suffering.

This attack on Syria is not justified by any law or notion. It is punishment, pure and simple, and an act of war. Sure, use of gas and chemicals is awful, but both sides in this civil war have committed many atrocities. I have no 'favorites here because Assad needs to go and the rebels are totally infiltrated by Al-Qaeda and Hezbollah is standing with Assad. A pox on all of them! We should stay out of it.

I am terrified. Let the U.N. take care of it. We don't need another war.
comment by elderjane on Aug 28, 2013 4:29 AM ()
I always believed the U.N. had an obligation to take action when a country has used gas or other chemical/biological weapons, but that's definitely not the same thing as the U.S. getting into Syria's civil war.

My flag will be upside down if they attack Syria. I don't care who did what to whom. It is not in our national interest to intervene in anyone's civil war except to offer humanitarian aid. We are NOT the cops of the world!

Poor Miley Cyrus, indeed. Very poor judgment on her part.
