Day One ...

No more Camel Lights. I have the last pack here. 17 left in it. Over 40 years of smoking, and I'm done sometime today.

I'm not going to brag about it. I'm not going to proselytize any smokers.

I'm not going to buy another cigarette.

Thank you Camel, for decades of crutch-like enjoyment.

I will miss you dearly.

I am not quitting or 'giving up' because it is Lent. I don't follow mythology and don't believe in the dogma.

I am giving up cigarettes for my health, a far better reason than anyone's religious doctrine.

(Sucks a lung full of clean air and wonders where the chewing gum went.)

I am chewing ten Vitamin C's a day, and that's 5,000 units. Beats drinking ten shots of brown stuff (or, does it?) Hmmmm?

I am sending encouragement your way. My niece is not yet fifty and has
C.O.P.D, she is trying to quit too. I did it, Ted did it and you can also.
Deciding and sticking to it is hard but so worth it.

Or you can quit several times in recent years, each for months or as much as a year and then just take one, because, after all, it's only one, and soon you are back to a pack a day as is going on NOW and your wife can't help you because you won't be helped.

It's all about will power. In the Army Ranger School we held candles under our palms to see who would be the last one holding the fire to the flesh. I won. It still hurts, but I won.

https://www.blucigs.com/ It seriously is the main reason why I was able to quit!

Kudos! I am sure you will do great! You have a great perspective as you do this.

Sending bushels of encouragement! I remember when my dad quit cold turkey back in the mid 1950s. He'd just stocked up the cupboard with two cartons of Lucky Strikes and decided to quit. They were stacked against the back wall behind the dishes for a long time while my mother doled them out to her friends a pack at a time. You know how Wilford Brimley talks in those commercials? Kind of know-it-all? That's the same tone my dad used when he would pronounce that while men could quit for good, it was impossible for women to do so.
