Here's my idea:
A new Meme (pronounced "Me-me," and that's what it means.)
based on your "bests" of the past 12 months. Copy this one and change the answers to your own.
Jondude's "Bests" of 2008:
1. Book, Fiction
-THE SPANISH GAME, by Charles Cumming (St. Martin's)
This author is the "new" John LeCarre, Jack Higgins and Len Deighton all rolled into one. His previous book, A SPY BY NATURE, introduced the same protaginist, Alec Milius.
2. Book, Nonfiction
-TURNING THE MIND INTO AN ALLY, by Sakyong Mipham (Riverhead Books)
A ninth path to ripping the recalcitrant human mind out of the unreality of reality and prodding it to work for your own good.
3. Music, Album
-CHINESE REVOLUTION (Guns and Roses)
Turn it up.
4. Motion picture
-BOLT
I would pay to see it again. I couldn't stop laughing. Great animation and story. Everything else I saw in 2008 sucked.
5. TV series
-HOUSE (Always the best.)
6. Political event
-Obama speech in Grant Park, Chicago, election night (what else?)
7. Food event
-Dinner for 2 at my place one night in April. Cannelloni Florentine, Risotto al Funghi, braised asparagus drizzled with Olive oil, a 2005 Chardonnay, a little Grappa nightcap and a 20mg Levitra.
8. Another Food event
-Breakfast the next morning.
9. Best visitor(s)
-My sister, Kathy, her son Jeff and daughter Debbi and Deb's son Josh, for 5 days in August. Nine cases of beer, ten bottles of wine and several cases of high-caffeine soda. I couldn't keep pace with one of them! God I miss them all.
10. Best accomplishment
-See number 7
11. Best party
-Last night (December 16, the Tiffin Art Guild holiday thing at the Shawhan.)
12. Best sport event
-The first 18 holes I played at Seneca Hills back on an April weekday. Ahhhh. Forget the score but smell the fairways!
13. Best of the Best for all year!
-How my friends have supported me through these tough times, particularly Marc, and especially Jenni. Without them, I would be floundering and maybe worse.
Now go ahead and do your own, and add some if you like!
