Internet Phone is to Reliable Service As ... ..

Ugh.. August 10... Summer? The days are certainly getting shorter, so it's just about dark at 8:30, but the temp is already down to 56! That would be a nice over-night low when the daytime high is 80, but that isn't the case these days. It's been cool and wet. And I still have outside painting to do this summer.

The garden isn't going to produce much, except for butternut squash. There's only one beefstake tomato plant surviving, and a few cherry tomato plants, but they have very few buds. The squash, on the other hand are going nuts, and there are a few cukes, including one that I harvested but haven't eaten yet. I hope I can find a recipe for squash that I like. Donna is doing Atkins, so I'll be eating the squash alone.

The BS with the internet phone provider is finally over. I called them on Monday, and they gave me the same old story. "We can't contact the person who has the device registered to her account; take it back to Wal-mart...blah blah, blah." I told the guy that none of that was going to happen. When a tree fell on the phone line at the Delhi house, the phone company was here within an hour on a Friday afternoon to fix it. I told the guy that I wasn't about to spend any more time or gas taking the grand tour of the local stores to try and fix my own phone line. I told him that it would be more cost effective to cancel the Vonage account and use our cells.

Next thing I know, there's an Indian princess, or whatever the hell she was on the line who had "the power" to help me. She decided to send us a new (refurbished) router. And I shouldn't mind the charge for $118, since we'd be credited for that. They could have done this a week and $40 ago, but nooooooo... So, Donna hooked the thing up earlier, and after making a few adjustments that she hasn't explained, the thing works! Case closed (I hope). As soon as I can get rid of the landline here, we'll have real cell phones that we can use anytime like walkie talkies.

I took my coupon for free Everybody's Nuts to Wal-mart the other day. Guess what? They don't carry the brand any more. I asked the cashier at Price Chopper if she has ever seen Everybody's Nuts, and although I phrased the question correctly, her expression suggested that she misunderstood. But bottom line: Price Chopper doesn't handle Everybody's Nuts either.

I could be watching the Olympics, but instead I'm watching Iceroad Truckers on the History Channel. Yup, driving big rigs on Arctic ice. Yup, beats tandem diving every time!

Have a good one......

Oh, as for the subject line.... How about: Internet phone is to reliable service as mail-order fast food is to fine dining?

John, are you on the Adkins diet?

The pistachios were called Everybody's Nuts? So how does one phrase it correctly? "Have you seen Everybody's Nuts?" "Do you handle Everybody's Nuts?"

Oh Gosh, what a great post!
Stupid Vonage! We have it too. Everytime our cable goes out, so does our phone. We finally got a tech over recently to "fix" the cable which in turn has produced fewer problems with vonage. I could care less if I ever had a land line again. Our entire family has cell phones anyway.... maybe time to do away with it.

I'm getting very little in the way of beefsteak tomatoes. My husband picked a couple. They were not very big and need day or two on the windowsill to completely ripen. So I'll be curious to see how they taste. We are getting lots (too many now) roma's and cherry tomato's. The neighbors, my husbands co-workers and my sister/sister-in-laws are digging us right now for the free veggies,

I didn't watch the olympics either last night, I watched The Closer and Saving Grace...I like those two shows. I've seen the previews of Ice Road Truckers, but haven't watched it.

We like Ice Road Truckers too. I'll try to remember to look for that brand of nuts around here, just out of curiosity.
