Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum

We took my in-laws to the Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum today.
It was wonderful, particularly the art work and Native American artifacts. I caught myself wishing I knew what all the haute taute people know about interpreting art. Don't get me wrong. I'm just as impressed and awed by art as the next person, but supposedly there's something I'm missing if I don't know how to interpret it. My ignorance did not take away from the exhilaration of seeing beautiful images of our "western cowboy" past.
There are some beautiful sculptures:

And an interesting Native American wedding dress:

In other news, I've been shocked by the harsh words and low blow comments on here lately with regard to politics. Frankly, I've kept my opinion to  myself in order to avoid conflict, but when I read some of this stuff I can hardly keep it in. I don't know what the Democrats are worried about. Your going to get four more years of Obama. Obamacare isn't going away and there will be more social programs than ever with expansion to the existing ones. All of this will take place without even having a budget in place. You have nothing to worry about, so I don't understand why the sudden surge in vitriol. Of particular concern to me is that no one has a viable plan for dealing with the looming economic crisis this country is going inevitably face sooner or later. Kicking the can down the road is the most irresponsible thing this government has done in decades.

On to cheerier things:

The pool is down. The garden is still producing jalapeño peppers, okra and small tomatoes. I might plant some mustard, turnips, spinach and carrots. There are a few projects I'd like to finish before winter sets in.

Finally, if you leave a politically charged comment on this post, I'll probably ignore it. I'm so sick of the hypocrisy on BOTH sides and the grid lock, for which BOTH sides are responsible. I don't believe in our democracy anymore. I don't believe we have any true leaders left. If we do, they are too smart to get involved in politics. I apologize for the pessimistic finale here, but I'm one of the hard working, struggling ones who hasn't seen any improvements in many years. Finding a job that will adequately support my family's frugal standard of living has been a near impossible task.

On a brighter note, I DID get an interview finally with a state agency. Waiting to hear from the follow up.

Don't know why these pictures are weird. The uploader was doing a funny thing.

I think Obama understands that social programs have to be fixed. What is different is that he wants to fix them, not destroy them. That works for me, even though I am in the group that will not be affected. I think the most workable democracy is one that chooses the best of both worlds -- capitalism and socialism to make a viable balance, to achieve individual excellence and upward mobility, and to not throw the poor and the disabled into the garbage. (What would Jesus do, indeed.) As for those who abuse the system, you weed them out, you keep at it. Throwing away the program because of such abuses is not the answer, anymore than banning all driving is the answer to drunks who kill people with their cars..

The pictures didn't work, by the way. The other day I was having problems uploading photos to MyBloggers. Mentioned it to Eddie, and it seemed to work itself out somehow.

Nice little questions marks where the pics should be. I might try again if I remember.

I am hoping that good things will happen for you soon. Your and Jenny
deserve it.

Thanks. Hope Ted gets to go home soon!

My reaction to art is emotional. If it moves me then I love it. It is all
in the gut for me. We love the Western Heritage museum and can't get enough
of it. We took Fredo and Mike there.

I knew you had taken them there and was interested in seeing some of the things you and Fredo wrote about. The marble sculptures are amazing!

The cowboy museum is in Oklahoma City, isn't it?
comment by jondude on Sept 23, 2012 9:06 AM ()
Yes, it is! We are the proud hosts. It's been fully renovated and is a true work of art in and of itself.

Couldn't see the pics from my computer, but I do agree with your dismay about rude political commentary. I stay out of it. Yesterday I was thinking about leadership. What if the president were like a parent, and had to do an unpopular thing for the greater good of all. Would we let him? These days decisions are made according to what the polls say, leaders following the people instead of the other way around. It's twisted.

Hope you get the job!

Sorry about the pics. Looks like the pic uploader is broken.

'interpreting art' is just what you are seeing--as simple as that--"haute taute" people don't know any more or less than you do--it is what is going on in YOUR head that interprets art.

I will NOT discuss politics anymore until after the election--if I was smart I wouldn't after either!

True that!
Thanks for the art encouragement. I hated the feeling that I was somehow missing something important. I probably didn't.

Politics is like gambling only you have no chance of winning.

Yeah, the odds are worse!
I saw two yarn artists today, ie. 1 knitter and 1 crocheter. I smiled at both and exchanged pleasantries with one.
There seriously need to be classes for those kinds of things and others in school.

Maybe art appreciation is like the love of chocolate: some people feel it more intensely than the rest of us. We hear what they say, but don't feel it ourselves. I was just reading an article about planting garlic this time of year. It winters over and matures next summer. It sounds worth doing, but I'm not sure I have a spot for it. I wish you could see my tomatoes right now.

I wish I could see them as well. Try the garlic! I got my fall seeds out today and the 'garden bug' bit me. Hopefully I'll be tilling and planting Monday morning early.
