Final - Arch 101 Studio Project

This project was quite the experience; something that I will never forget. As a first semester freshman, taking on such a large scale project was intimidating. Designing in small scale by drawing and creating models out of balsa wood and chip board is a lot different than measuring and cutting 2x 6's and 2 x 4's to a thirty-second of an inch precision, and using machines in the shop to cut plywood. I think we all learned a lot throughout the design and building process.

The project was to create an individual living unit that accommodated at least three sleeping spaces, a standing area, an entrance, and standing room. The original unit was a 6 x 6 x 8 cube. The projects were built in our studios, by carrying plywood and 2 x 4's back and forth from shop, and then were transferred 45 minutes to a nearby park by a semi-truck. I got a chance to spend the night in them (yes, after our on-site final review that happened on the site, a group of us stayed overnight in the bed spaces we created!), and we  had a blast climbing on and occupying the spaces we create. We even fired up a bonfire and ate S'mores.

Here are some pictures: (They progress from beginning stages to final structure)

Heck I can't get to the pictures let alone even start building a project like that--you are a better man than me Gunga Din!

I was having a lot of trouble with this post - multiple problems! Frustrating , but I put up a new post with the same information and working photo's. I've been trying to delete the first post...is there anyway to do this? I haven't figured it out yet.

It seems like the image loader is being unfriendly this evening. I just cheated and copied and pasted the URLs into my browser to check them out. VERY COOL! I can see why it might have been a bit intimidating, but it looks totally awesome!
