Gas Tax Holiday Debacle

Good Mawnin', Mah Fella Amuricans:
There's been a lotta jaw flappin' among the "major" candidates about a gas tax "holiday" wherein the gub'ment suspends the federal tax on gasoline for the summer months.  This is nothing but a lolly held out to voters to pander for votes.  The federal gas tax helps fund repairs to roads, bridges and other infrastructure items, which as we all know, are sorely needed.  If the gas tax is repealed and a windfall profits tax is enacted (rotsa ruck getting THAT past the Pacyderms in Congress) the oil companies will just raise prices all the more.  The poor working schmucks like you and me, well... since I'm retired, like you, will end up paying just as much or more at the pump.  Its idiotic and will serve no useful purpose.   I propose a moratorium on price hikes from the oil companies.  If those greedy bastids raise prices over the summer, prosecute them for price  gouging.  That'll hit them where they live and give some real relief to consumers.  Next, we get our asses in gear and start developing coal liquification, electric cars, and exploring for new oil deposits.....including, unfortunatly, the Alaskan Wildlife Reserve (ANWR). If done with environmental concerns in mind, the damage to the eco-system can be kept to a minimum.  And how about methane?  I saw this story on the news the other night where this guy had a dairy farm and he met all the electricity needs of the farm plus a number of his neighbors by utilizing methane gas made from cow manure.  Now if we could only find a way to adapt this method for use on a nationwide scale all our energy problems would be solved because if there's anything Amurica has an abundant supply of is bull shit.   Witness this idiotic gas tax plan.  It's all a scheme to get yer votes.  You good folks in Indiana and North Carolina, vote for the only candidate who won't shine moonbeams up yer collective skirts, vote for the only candidate who will give it to you with the bark on it, vote for the candidate who will not pander and insult yer inteligence.  Vote Early....Vote Often...Vote For BUGG!!!

California, Oklahoma and Nevada have enacted laws that would increase their fuel taxes to offset any drop in the federal tax, so motorists in those three states wouldn't see the plan's potential savings at the pump.

When you're elected, we'll have affordable gas, a sound economy, no more bankruptcy and loss of homes... well, I know of several places I can vote, plus, I vote absentee, so I get another one!

You know, a robber can't even rob the banks any more since he can't afford gas to get to the bank!

Yes Bugg, I am all for you. Can I have the Congressional Medal of Honor for my husband? You are so right about the suspension of the gas tax. It will just dig us further in debt. Angie, regarding the Suburban, we had to trade our Suburban in and it was practically new, because it used so much gas.

its a big mess, and you are right, they would just up the price to make up the difference. Maybe what you need to do when elected is to do what was done in the past, fine gougers and the war profiteering businesses for these shady little schemes till they bleed. That would take care of MOST of the Federal debt. And the big if on Drilling on federal wildlife reserves is will they do so in an economically sound manner. My guess is no, they still haven't fixed their last big Alaskan spill, and as long as the penalty is less than the profit, they won't. Cheveron got I think over 5 billion last quarter in profits, while charging us around 3.50 for gas (simplified average). God forbid they have to only get 2.5 billion in profits and give us oil for $1.75

My hubby said the very same thing that you did. He spent $90 filling up his suburban over the weekend. He is in real estate so he has to drive quite a bit. I loved your comment about the bull s**t! You have my vote!

Commodity speculation, ethanol, an over-spending and over-borrowing Federal government and the erosion in the dollar vs. other currencies is killing us. Time is here for a change. November is more than just another election. It is the point where the United States either wakes up and starts the recovery from the tragedy of the last 8 years... or else.

The Federal gas tax is only about 18 cents a gallon. The states' taxes are higher. The effect of the ethanol scam is like a tax on everything, especially foodstuffs, and right now is about 75 cents a gallon when compared to May 2006. What fools we are for buying into corn as a solution, when we end up putting our grocery budget into our gas tanks.
