Warm shelter and children are indeed blessings. And I can attest to the fact that grandchildren are ALSO wonderful! (Somebody once told me that grandchildren are our reward for not killing our own kids!) I too worry about family members when they are driving in the "wintry mix."

Abstinence, in my opinion, is the safest route to travel to avoid disease and unwanted pregnancies. However, the real world being what it is, it should be taught along with other forms of protection and birth control. Having taught school for a number of years, I know that many young folks with raging hormones will dismiss abstinence out-of-hand, but will at least consider other options.

With roofs, it's a "pay me now, or pay me later" thing. Do it now, and you won't have to replace the sub-roofing also. My brother waited. Finally the sub-roofing deteriorated also, and he ended up paying over $215000 for a new roof!

I wish I had your faith, Bill. Then I wouldn't worry so much about the world. It is SO GOOD to read about your love for your kid and her love for you! The fact that you worry about what kind of a role model you are to her shows what a wonderful and loving parent you are. If there were more like you in this world, we wouldn't have to worry about the next generation.
I don't understand what the conservatives are frightened of. They both amaze me and piss me off.
