The Confession Booth

Wow! I never expected my previous post to elicit so much transparency. Although I know the subject is a bit touchy, it appears to have stricken a chord. My intention never was to make anyone feel badly about their own personal past. What I really wanted was to point up the fact that abstinence teaching is ridiculed and rejected outright in many circles despite its safety and 100% success rate.
Thanks for reading and commenting.

Interesting. You already know that I think birthcontrol should also be taught. I knew what my children did....because they told me. I might have preferred not to know.

Abstinence, in my opinion, is the safest route to travel to avoid disease and unwanted pregnancies. However, the real world being what it is, it should be taught along with other forms of protection and birth control. Having taught school for a number of years, I know that many young folks with raging hormones will dismiss abstinence out-of-hand, but will at least consider other options.

I read your post on abstinence, but didn't comment. I used to teach sex education. When asked, I hesitated to offer up an opinion about abstinence. I tried to stick to the facts, not moralize one way or the other. I never talked about it with my 3 daughters either (whom I raised as a single parent). I have mixed feelings about the subject. Consequently, I let them make their own decision. I trusted they'd make the correct decision. Perhaps my philosophy was "ignorance is bliss". I'll never know what decisions they made.
