Breast Cancer

Facts

  • Every two minutes a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer.

  • One woman in eight who lives to age 85 will develop breast cancer during her lifetime.

  • Breast cancer is the leading cause of death in women between the ages of 40 and 55.

  • Seventy percent of all breast cancers are found through breast self-exams. Not all lumps are detectable by touch. We recommend regular mammograms and monthly breast self-exams.

  • Eight out of ten breast lumps are not cancerous. If you find a lump, don't panic-call your doctor for an appointment.

  • Mammography is a low-dose X-ray examination that can detect breast cancer up to two years before it is large enough to be felt.

  • When breast cancer is found early, the five-year survival rate is 96%. This is good news! Over 2 million breast cancer survivors are alive in America today.

Men we all need to get behind the saving of one, err two, of America’s greatest resources. That’s right –“The Great American Breast”.

Think of where you would be without them.

·         As a child you would have starved

·         They gave you manual dexterity practice at a young age-to this day I can pop open a bra one handed.

·         They have taught us to be politically correct as in “My eyes are up here stupid.”

·         They have helped us improve our mammary-err memory “Ok dummy just what color are my eyes?”

·         They have given us religion, many a man has been heard to say “Oh my God” while in awe.

·         They have helped our peripheral vision. Is there a married man alive that cannot check out every woman that walks by while appearing to pay attention to his wife? Thus avoiding having to hear the “you are such a pig” slam.

·         They provide comfort and solace-there is no better place to rest your weary head when the world is closing in.

So guys encourage your ladies to get that mammogram, in fact help her out with a breast exam. Who knows where that might lead?

My wife did the 60 mile walk in DC a few weeks ago and raised over $2600 in the process...her cousin passed away about a year ago from breast cancer...I was extremely proud of her....

You are right about that last one. A teacher in my building had breast cancer several years ago and said it was her boyfriend that had found the lump. So, she told the men in the building to keep on feeling...

Excellent advice, Grump!
As the great Bob Hope used to sing,"Thanks for the mammaries!"

Thanks for writing this. I appreciate your take on breasts as well. I couldn't wait to get them and I sure don't want to lose them.

My mom and I were just discussing that when men have a major health issue it's brought to the forefront (and usually there is a test or cure quickly), whereas women's issues rarely get enough funding or attention to make a difference. Sad.

Yes,this is a good reminder for them there.
By the way,not to get off the subject. Why is or have not heard
more about men who has prostrate cancer.
Is this something that they do not talk about?
Are they doing more and getting the men for a check up?
I never hear them about raising money or doing something.
This is also very important to men of all ages.
