Boy meets girl, Boy loses girl, boy gets girl and/or take a
girl from hot Miami and put here into freezing Minnesota--bet you could write
either and/or both scripts and that is "New In Town". Like a pair of
flips-flops, broken in, comfortable and unlike wearing stiletto heels on ice as
Renee Zellweger does this film is a
piece of fluff that asks nothing of you except to enjoy it.
The first half
of the film is a long set up for the second half so basically you are waiting
for the comedy and romance in this romantic comedy. Though the chemistry between
Zellweger and Harry Connick, Jr is pleasant Zellweger seems 'off'. She has a lot
of slapstick to perform and does it but the laughs don't come. Also, her,
generally, congenial face looks like she just had a face lift with very little
give.
The supporting roles are all overacted like everyone, male
and female, are doing a take off of Frances McDormand in "Fargo"--a few getting laughs
but most swallowing their words and hard to understand.
Having to
choose between fluff or an action picture--we decided on "New In Town" instead
of "Taken"--not necessarily a bad choice but not a memorable one
either.
