Full disclosure: I have not, and don't plan
to, read the Twilight books. I saw the first two pictures and don't
remember much about them. I think the 3 leads are the blandest actors I
have ever seen look wise and acting wise. I am not, and never have been,
into the vampire, werewolf sort of story. Never say never--I do LOVE
"True Blood"! Okay, now that's that out of the way let me talk about
seeing "The Twilight Saga" Eclipse".
Off hand,
though this is supposedly a drama, there are a few laugh out loud funny
lines such as the exchange between Bella, (Kristen Stewart) and her
father, (Billy Burke) about her virginity, mostly due to the latter's reading of his lines. The
screenplay, a love story triangle between a vampire, a werewolf and
human being should be/would be deep if only the actors could/would bring
some depth, shadings to their characters. The 'fight' of Bella wanting
to give herself to Edward, (Robert Pattinson)
but Edward, the vampire, insisting they wait until after marriage while
at the same time Jacob (Taylor Lautner)
is more than willing to take her NOW!!!
There is nothing mature about the screenplay
but that is what I think is appealing to all the females running to see
the film series--oh alright, and the bare chested guys. In this
particular film there is more action regarding the waring vampire sects
and the werewolves maybe with the intentions of entertaining the guys
the girls bring along with them making the former promise themselves to
get to the gym!
There is very little showing of skin by the
females in the movie which is a disadvantage to them because the males
supply a lot of eye candy which distracts you from their lack of acting
talent but the females don't have that advantage and just show what
ability they don't have.
I really don't understand the hullabaloo regarding
Stewart, Pattison and Lautner. Yes the latter has a 6
pack, hard body but the face is so immature looking, and he is so baby
acting it would be a turnoff to anyone female over 21 unless they wanted
to mother him. Pattison,
with his long, long eyelashes, pale skin and dead eyes seems to be a
humorless human being. In a way Stewart reminds me of Kim Novak, not in looks but in the
sense that when the latter was motionless and her face filled the screen
she inhabited it but as soon as the camera pulled away and she had to
move and try to act the illusion of beauty was gone! (And if you, the
Twilight fans, don't know who Kim Novak is google her name and
image.)
Nothing I write will stop a Twilight fan from
going to see this movie and if you aren't a fan and just want to see
what they are all talking about you can waste two hours of your life in
worse ways or you can send the same amount of time watching the first
season of True Blood which is a lot more intersting and has much better
actor and much better looking actors!
