The Switch---a Movie Review

VIOLENCE! SEX! NUDITY! DRUGS! Okay, okay, it is a Jennifer Aniston/Jason Bateman romantic comedy so it should be in small letters:  violence (slap
across the face), sex ( a sperm donor), nudity (a full backside shot of
an actor on stage followed by a very fuzzy frontal shot), drugs (a lot
of drinking.) This is the second movie that revolves around a sperm
donor but "The Children Are All Right" was a lot more interesting and
more involved with the subject.

This
movie is pleasant and easy enough to sit through but you certainly
won't want to see it again. It is as bland as the leads are. I don't
know what happened to Jennifer's sparkle from "Friends" but it isn't there
anymore. She has walked through her last few movies and hasn't done any
acting since the independent film she made a couple of years ago playing
a middle class working girl. It is time for her to start challenging herself. Jason is and has always been bland but he usually has co-stars to give him some sparks.

With one exception the supporting cast adds nothing to the film except to be annoying. Sorry but I am not a fan of Jeff Goldblum, who I wish would comb his hair, and haven't been since the remake of "The Fly"!
I could not picture anyone being a friend of Juliette Lewis who would
drive me up a wall. Patrick Wilson, an excellent singer and dancer,
plays second fiddle to his sparkling teeth and shows zero personality.

The
outstanding supporting player is the child actor Thomas Robinson who is
a real boy with all the not yet formed persona of a boy but a sullen
kid who doesn't know how to face up to a bully and yet is worried about
the earth and being a hypochondriac.

As annoyed as I was by Bateman and Goldblum not combing their hair Allen was annoyed by the fact that the kid, the son of two blue-eyed parents, had brown eyes! :O)
