In 1973 a man
decided he wanted to share his collection of books withThroughout the year they host lectures,
readings and book signings by prominent GLBT authors plus an annual workshop to help both established and aspiring writers. They have a book club that meets
monthly to discuss gay fiction and
nonfiction plus newly published manuscripts. the community and that soon became The Stonewall Library and Archives
whose gay circulating collection includes more than 18,000 books and
over 600 DVDs. The Stonewall library provides free public access to more
than sixty national and regional periodicals.
All the above are
free including a film series showing classic cinema scheduling a "Out
Boys Movie Night" and an "Out Girls Movie Night". The last Sunday of
every month opera fans meet to watch an opera
film and then have a discussion. Their current home opened in 2009 and
featuring rotating exhibits.

This month,
in honor of Gay Pride Month, and the 50th anniversary of the film , "Where The Boys Are", which put Fort Lauderdale on the map plus the 100th anniversary of the
incorporation of the city, they have an exhibit of 10 panels called
Where The Gays Are tracing the history of the Gay community. Each panel
displays a different aspect of gay life and how the city has become a
vacation destination for gays from all over the world.
From its founding in 1973 Stonewall has
become the largest lending library of its kind in the United States. By
