There is a hallway between the ME and the STAR wall with
the latter containing special people, and mementos, in my life. On the
upper left are certificates from United and American Airlines followed
by pictures, in order, of my 4 exes; Pepe, Bernie, Johnny and Bill. To
the right of Bill is a picture of Chuck and Terry. To the left of the
mirror is a picture of James and Robert, who were together for 50 years
before Robert's death last year, with me at my Leap Year birthday. I am wearing "A Chorus Line" hat that James made for me. Under
that is a coat of arms made for me divided into 4 parts each
representing a different period; Sign of Pisces, an airplane, a chef and
books. Underneath that is a plaque I received from Weight Watchers of
Michigan and Indiana for whom I did a series of classes and lectures.
To
the right of the mirror is E. B. Smith who I met in the 1980s. He was
Pearl Bailey's manager. We became very close friends for a couple of
years and then he 'disappeared' and I have no idea what happened to him.
Next to him is a picture of Flo and me--very simply she is the first
person who taught me unconditional love. She was, also, a great judge of
people especially zeroing in on Pepe, Bernie, Johnny and Bill, knowing
upon meeting them who was good, would be good, for and to me and was
100% right!
Next
is a picture of Robert Kingsbery and the written 'in memorian' for him
upon his death. Bob and I weren't 'soul mates' but we were 'soul
brothers' from the first day we met in Overton Parkway in Memphis,
Tennessee. Though he died the way he wanted to he died way too young and
I still miss him.
Kathleen
Chalfant is a friend of a friend who I love as an actress. She has won
many awards for her performances on stage in "Angels In America" and
"Wit" plus appearing in movies and numerable TV shows. She is currently
starring in an independent movie, "Isn't It Delicious?"
Patricia
Nell Warren is world famous for her first novel "The Front Runner." She
has/was very instrumental in my continuing to be a professional writer
and I firmly believe some day they WILL make a picture of "The Front
Runner" which is usually rumored to be going into production with the
'star' of the day ever since Paul Newman was first mentioned!
The
two bottom pictures are of Robert Lee Chu, on the left, and Ozzie
Wheaton on the right. I met Robert in New York and we had a 'fling'. At
that time he was in a play on Broadway and was auditioning for a movie.
Due to circumstances, though George Chauncey, Jr. quoted me extensively in his "gay
Life In New York City" book, because I brought Robert to our dinner
engagement at Marchi's the former never spoke to me again.
Ozzie
is a fabulous singer and showman who became part of my crowd in the 80s
when I lived off 23rd and Fed and in the 90s when I moved to Gateway.
He left to do nightclub work and return to his hometown.
I
have pictures of some famous, and some infamous, people I have met in
my life in my albums in the closet and that's where they want to stay!
