Reviews April 2023 Part 3

IN MOVIE THEATRES:
1) "Somewhere In Queens"-- film--1 hour & 46 minutes--directed, co-written, produced and starring Ray Romano--Synopsis: When a son in an overbearing Italian family finds some success his father tears the family apart to make it happen--WOW!!!--I am not and have never been a Ray Romano fan so I wasn't looking forward to seeing the movie but it was Friday, movie day, and there wasn't anything else really worth seeing and in I went--after 30 minutes I was ready to walk out but, for whatever reason I can't/won't do that in a movie theatre then SOMETHING HAPPENED!!! --there was a very emotional scene between Romano and Laurie Metcalf that grabbed me and I became completely engulfed with the story--Romano does make a few mistakes as a new film director plus filling 4 separate jobs on it--aside from the synopsis I won't tell you anything about the film except--IF YOU GO TO SEE ONLY ONE MOVIE IN A THEATRE THIS YEAR MAKE IT THIS ONE AND BRING TISSUES!!
ON NETWORK TV:
2) "The Good Doctor"--ABC--Monday--10 PM--6 seasons--Synopsis: Shaun Murphey, a young autistic man with savant syndrome relocates to California to work at a prestigious hospital--I was first impressed with the actor Freddie Highmore playing Norman Bates in "Bates Hotel" and after the first season of this show I found it very hard to not believe he was this person just as he made me forget Anthony Perkins in "Psycho"-- for 6 seasons he has been memorizing, never going out of character, never being the English actor he is--I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEXT SEASON!
3) "Accused"--FOX--Tuesday--9 PM--Season 1--13 episodes--Synopsis: American crime drama based on a British series--chronicles ordinary people accused of a crime--each week a different cast and cast--we are told the story from the defendant's point of view---EACH EPISODE HOLDS YOUR INTEREST AND MAKES YOU TAKE A SIDE!
STREAMING REVIEWS:
4) "Maestro in Blue"--Netflix--Greek series--9 episodes--8 hours & 40 minutes--Synopsis: a musician goes to lead a festival on a scenic, small island and finds himself involved with other people's families including parents and children--it takes place as COVID hits--excellent soundtrack--all the parts fit together part by part--A 'GREEK TRADGEDY'--SOME SCENES HARD TOO LOOK AT BUT 3 YOUNG ROMANTIC AFFAIRS ARE REALISTIC AS ARE THE ADULTS!
5) "Johnny"--Netflix--Polish movie--2 hours--Synopsis: after a court order sends him to work at a hospice an ex-criminal strikes up a friendship with the priest who runs it--have you seen this before? Yes! Will you get caught up in the story even if you saw it before? Yes! I HAVE BEEN SEEING FILMS LIKE THIS SINCE BING CROSBY & BARRY FITZGERALD WERE "PRIESTS" AND I WILL KEEP ON SEEING THEM--AND WHAT AN ENDING TO THIS ONE!!
6) "Alex Borstein: Corsets & Clowns"--Amazon Prime--Standuo comic--1 hour & 20 minutes--I love Borstein in "The Marvelous Mrs, Maisel" series so I figured I would like her in standup--WRONG! SHE IS AS FOUL MOUTHED AS ANY MALE COMIC PLUS SINGS 2-3 SONGS! WHY? ADDS NOTHING EXCEPT 15-20 UNNECESSARY TIME.
7) "Willmania"--Netflix--Australian series--8 episodes--2 hours & 3 minutes--Synopsis: series of unfortunate events threatens a career making opportunity for a food writer--LAST 3 EPISODES NOT WORTH SITTING THROUGH THE FIRST 5!
8) "Florida Man"--Netflix--7 episodes--5 hours & 54 minutes--Synopsis: a disgraced cop is forced to return ti Florida to get swept up in a wild and deadly treasure hunt--too many needless characters--female lead Abby Lee is fantastic--HAS ONE OF THE MOST POWERFUL CONFRONTATION BETWEEN FATHER & SON I HAVE EVER SEEN IN A TV SERIES BUT SHOW COULD HAVE BEEN CUT!
9) "Transatlantic"--Netflix--series--8 episodes--6 hours--Synopsis: an American journalist spent 1940-1941 in France arranging safe passage to the USA for more than 2,000 refugees who were in danger of losing their lives--this is one of the many true stories of brave people who helped so many including an unexpected couple which adds to this story and reminds us TO NEVER FORGET!

BE SURE TO SEE "SOMEWHERE IN QUEENS" AT YOUR LOCAL THEATRE!
