This documentary was a VERY big disappoint to me. I am a fan of
Bill Maher's talk show and have watched it since day one. I find him on it to be
loose, funny, honest, open and ready to listen (and argue) to everyone and
anyone.
Bill is an agnostic born to a Jewish mother and a Catholic
father--according to Jewish law this makes him Jewish but he attacks both
equally along with all other religions. Yes, he is funny now and then and, yes,
he does make many people looking foolish. He doers get the jabs in and, in most
cases, gets his points across BUT, and this is a big BUT---the film is too long,
very narrow in it's outlook and, repeatedly takes cheap shots which isn't
Maher's style.
There are those who love Michael Moore and those who don't just
as there are those who love Bill Maher and those who don't. Most of those who
don't like Moore are Republicans and justifiably don't like him as he constantly
attacks them but Republicans who dislike Maher do not listen to him. He does not
favor one party over another and he points out the mistakes both made and have
made and in language that everyone can understand. In this film his arguments
are scattered and not as effective as he is sitting behind his desk.
The documentary feels a lot longer than it is which just means
it drags at points and loses the audience's interests--all in all a
disappointing film!
