I really look forward to Wednesday lunches
with Allen as it is time to relax, forget all that has happened/is
happening in the world, sit back and eat, just have good talk. The only
part of the equation is to find a place that serves good food at
reasonable prices and, even harder, with good service.
The Quarterdeck has been in Fort Lauderdale since 1966 and though I have been there it has been awhile. This past
month I have made up for it by going their 3 times and each time it was a
winner.
For St. Patrick's Day we had a corned beef
sandwich that was thick and juicy with a good side of slaw for $4.99 The
following time I had shrimp jambalaya that would have passed muster in
New Orleans.
We have been fortunate in that of the 3 times
we have had lunch there our server was Tim and the time we didn't have
him, Courtney, our waitress, was in the weeds and as a 'team player',
without asking, he got our beverages and other items we were missing.
Now I ask for him as our server.
The Quarterdeck, no surprise, has a nautical
theme, comfortable booths, swing tables if you like to sit outside and a
bright atmosphere that is very apropos for the ambiance. The windows
are open and there are pool tables outside available for those who want
to play.
Each day, seven
days a week, the restaurant has a $9.99 lunch and dinner special and
today they had a 12 ounce prime rib with one side, of which they offer a
wide variety which Allen and I both had. I was very pleased with mine, Allen wasn't too happy with his and even though I suggested he have Tim exchange it he didn't. He
always thinks I get the better, and bigger, portion of what ever I
order--don't tell him but I agree. LOL
More amazing, starting April 15th they
are having a 'tax special lunch/dinner' for $6.99 including the prime
ribs, shrimp jambalaya, steak, fried shrimp, etc. Just go to their web
site to see all the different items; www.quarterdeckrestaurants.com
All restaurants down here are offering different kinds of 'specials' to
lure in customers during these poor economic times but none are serving
good food, sizable portions along with good service at such prices as
these.
The Quarterdeck may not be an 'elegant',
fancy restaurant with high prices but it is a warm, friendly place at
more than reasonable prices. For those who care and want it they do have
a full bar with all kinds of specials
