As
the song in "Gypsy" says, "You Gotta Have A Gimmick" and the gimmick of
the nation wide chain of pizza restaurants is, "Greenest restaurant in
America? You betcha..." Their emphasis in on organic, vegan andenvironmental friendly with gluten free pizza dough, biodegradable utensils, using hybrid and fuel efficient vehicles for deliveries, counter tops made from recycled glass bottles, etc.
With all this, and wanting to do the right thing, the question is does the food taste good?
I
had a coupon for an extra large pizza, fusion salad and drinks for 4
people for $19.95. There were only 3 of us but it would still be a good
deal as it would come to about $8 each, so, as it was across the street
from the movie, we decided to give it a try.
This
is a new location and they are taking up 4 store fronts. Currently the
one store front is the restaurant part but this will bechanged into offices and the other sections will make up the restaurant.
They
didn't have the X-Large pizza which came with the coupon so they gave
us 2 of the Large ones. We had the cheese pizza, the salad with our
choice of dressings (Gino and I had Caesar and Allen Raspberry
vinaigrette) and 4 bottles of Boylan's soda (2 diet black cherry, root beer and cream.)
On
the menu is printed 'Saving the earth, one pizza at a time' and on theÂ
napkins, 'Saving the earth, one napkin at a time', yes, we get the
message.
Like
most restaurants today they serve their food on square and/or rectangle
plates and, to be honest, it is now a boring trend! :O)
While this store was made more for take out there are 4-5 tables and sort of waiter service
with one fo the employees bringing the food to the table after you
order it at the counter. I don't know if this is done when they are
busy as you are asked for your name when you give your order.
Call
me old fashioned but I prefer my pizzas to be round and not skimpy with
either the sauce or the cheese. This pizza was rectangular, with a very
thin crust, more like focaccia than pizza, with a thin layer of sauce and a thinner layer of cheese.
The salad was fine, made with arugula, romaine, cucumbers, carrots,
onions, basil and tomatoes, with the dressings a little watery.
While
I felt good 'saving the earth one pizza, one napkin, etc. at a time' I
left hungry and not feeling as if what I ate was saving anything. I
don't think I will be going back to Pizza Fusion but, as it is the 'in'
thing today, saving the earth, that is, I think it would pay for
someone to open a franchise and get in on the ground floor.
Go to www.pizzafusion.com to see the complete menu, learn their mission and to find out about franchise opportunities.
