Looking good: Nick Nolte, Sandra Bullock, Tom Cruise, Glenn Close, Viola Davis, Jennifer Lopez, Carmen Diaz, Penelope Cruz, Natalie Portman
Billy Crystal repeated many of his previous Oscar 'bits' but now they are bland instead of innovative.
Still trying to figure out why the girls in blue were in the aisles.
Though the Cirque de Sol was exciting what was it doing at the Oscar show? And I won't get into the award to Oprah.
Standing ovations given to Octavia Spencer, Myrl Streep, Cique de Sol, Christopher Plummer
Best speech given by Christopher Plummer
Wasted time: Will Ferrell & Zach Galifianakis certainly woke up the audience with the crashing cymbals but didn't get the bang across. Robert Downey, Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow are not comedians. Okay, I'll ask--why was Oprah honored by the movies? Yes, I know the Jean Hersholt award is for humanitarian work but with all the Hollywood stars who give of themselves why did they have to go to her?
I
know many people will disagree with me but was Angelina Jolie's right
leg auditioning for a role? Oh where oh where is the Cher of yesterday?
Or Streisand in her pajamas? Where are the fashion disasters that make the show so much fun to watch?
A fleeting, touching moment was the camera paning Sandra Bullock's face while Streep thanked her husband.
I
had picked most of the winners except I feel, and still feel, Viola
Davis should have won Best Actress. Hopefully "The Artist" will do
better at the box office now with its 5 awards including Best Director,
Actor and Picture.
Not surprisingly the show ran over time but not by much this year, only 38 minutes.
I
don't what it will take for the Academy to wake up but maybe the drop
in ratings will be the answer. The viewing public are only interested in
the top 6 awards and, yes, the technical people have to be, should be,
rewarded but not on TV.
Once again I said, "Never again,"
referring to watching the show and, once again, asked myself, when it
was over, WHY?" but there I will be next year sitting in front of the TV
watching every minute of the 2013 Oscar show moaning and groaning.
I am not a masochist folks except when it comes to the movies!!!
