I, also, held back on the close to 100 classic gay films that I really wanted to pass on to someone recently coming out or just old enough to appreciate the films.
There are the AIDS movies that will explain to people who weren't around in the 80s to realize how it affected the community--films such as "Longtime Companion", "As Is", "It's My Party" and "And The Band Played On" to name a few.
When Dale expressed an interest in "Tales Of The City" I sent him the series I had.
Among the films are classics like "The Boys In The Band", "Beautiful Thing", "Maurice", "Torch Song Trilogy", "Midnight Express", "Philadelphia", "An Early Frost", "Making Love" and "Sunday Bloody Sunday".
There are comedies--yes, not all gay films end in tragedy--such as Russell Crowe playing a son whose father is trying to find a lover for him in "The Sum Of Us", "Big Eden", "The Birdcage" and "In and Out".
There are documentaries like "Common Threads" about the AIDS quilt, "Before Stonewall", "The Celluloid Closet" about gays in movies and "Voices From The Front" relating about those who were in the forefront of the modern day gay movement.
All in all there are about 80 tapes, including some that I taped from TV specials or of movies rarely shown on TV.
Do I sell them on e-bay or do I wait until someone says, "Hey, Martin, I would love them. Could you send them to me and I'll pay the shipping??"?? Or do I just send them out to people I know who would like to see them?? Or, do I just watch them when a Friday comes along and there is nothing playing in the theatres that I want to see??
Then again how many people still have VCR machines to watch them on??
These are films I can and have watched again and again which are the type of films I buy.

I am one of those people who uses both VCR and DVD, too. At least I am not alone.
