Did I Make a Mistake Buying New Tower???

Since Mary won't send her computer smarts husband with the cute ass--hey, she posted that for the whole world to read!!!--and I can't afford to hire a nerd technician it almost feels like I made a mistake buying the new tower!!!

Looks like it will take a couple of weeks to get everything in its place.

I 'imported' my Juno account but my address book and 'favorites' didn't come along with it so I will now have to start typing that all in manually.

I am hoping this blog goes through okay so at least I can blog, comment and send/receive e-mails.

The reason I think it may have been a mistake is because it hasn't speeded up anything--it works exactly the same as my old tower did!!! I may have been smarter if I got broadband for a year with the money.

The biggest headache is that the new tower came with Vista and it is so different than XP that I will have to go buy "Vista For Dummies" and work it page by page. It seems that they aren't giving manuals anymore. I will have to go through the Internet manual a bit at a time--'help' has never helped.

My biggest headache is the size of the type--no matter what I have tried, so far, all the type in programs, e-mails, here, web sites, etc., is about 10 and that is too small for my eyes. I've gone through the Juno and Microsoft Vista tool bars and nada!

Also the layouts for 'my documents', 'my pictures', etc., is different and will take some getting use to--also, have to find the new Word and haven't had any luck with that YET.

Looks like I will be spending a lot of my next few week's of retirement figuring this whole thing out.

And, I forgot--I have to get use to the new layouts of Free Cell, Hearts and Solitaire!!!

So many people I know needed a bit of time to learn, accept, and use their new puters that had Vista...some really did get frustrated but are now doing fine. The computer really should work faster and easier, but it's what's being fed into it...how quickly the feed...that determines the quality of speed from the internet. If the signal is slow, the computer can only go as fast as that signal...even though the computer itself is working quicker and more efficient than an older one. Anyway, good luck with it and may you find it better and easier soon.

When I was searching for a new machine I went to tigerdirect and was able to specify which operating system I wanted (along with a bunch of other mix'n'match options. Vista never did take off... and your the first guy I know of who is willing to be a guinea pig for Microsoft. The tech guys I know said not to get Vista, since there would be nobody to ask if I had a problem. Anyway, good luck with it!

Vista is really different. It sounds like you are doing pretty good, though, even with your challenges.
Is there there a section like a Control Panel on it? If so, look for Appearance Themes. Choose Screen Revolution, and increase it until you are happy with the font size.
