Don't Always Listen to Your Doctor!

(I was there and I don't know what Allen was doing when he took these pictures!)

I've
said many times that I heard 'it is the practice of medicine and they
are practicing on us, " more times than I want, but every once in
awhile, something happens and I believe it. I got a call from my doctor
that my triglycerides were high and he called in a prescription for Fenofibrate which I picked up today. I read the pharmacist's information that comes
with it and then looked it up in  "The Pill Book". I wasn't too worried
about it 'causing gallstones, can cause pancreatitis and liver and possibly kidney failure. It could destroy muscle cells, infections and pain and combined with taking simvastatin can double all the previously mentioned side effects'.

I
am not usually affected by reading side effects--if I was I wouldn't
take any medicines--but since I take, and have taken it for 12 years,
simvastatin and I know triglycerides can be lowered by  a slight change
in the diet so I am going to go that way and put the Fenofibrate in the
cupboard.

I'm
not one to tell on my friends but you want to hear nerve?!? Arnie has
been taking me food shopping on Thursday and last week he
couldn't/wouldn't take me. Do you want to hear his flimsy excuse? He had
to have his pacemaker changed! Do you believe that?!?!? And had the
nerve to tell me that with a straight face! You just can't depend on
anyone anymore. Guess I'll let him take me tomorrow unless he comes up
with another silly excuse!{#rofl.gif}{#rofl.gif}{#saythat.gif}{#saythat.gif}{#rofl.gif}{#rofl.gif}

I would definitely try to control it through diet first too! Don't blame you a bit.

I go along with that.I have dumped so many pills in the basket after reading all of the side effect and who needs it.
Do not blame you not taking that pill .
They never tell you the side effect as we have to looked it up.
What we see do not like.Think that you can figured out a way and lower your trig.Funny you mentioned this.
Once a week I go and visit my 87 year old friend at a home.
For some strange reason I looked in the basket and saw many pills be dumped.I said:Harold what this?I do not know as his memory is failing.
Why are you not taking your medication?I do not want to.
Now where is the nurse or health care checking up on this?
But there is another story to this.
He looks very well and do not show any indication of whats going on with his health. He has been doing this for quite some time.
The old bugger.Give him credit. But this does not help all of us.
Your right that they have all this information on side effect to cover themself.Well whatever you do,do it best and good luck.

I have always supported the idea of people being proactive in their health. Doctors have the best of intentions, but we also know our bodies really well. I have two great doctors. I was taking a scrip that I was having flu like symptoms with. I had checked with one of our Reference books, which warned that it was a bad side effect, and I went to both doctors who couldn't find that in their pill guide. The PDR book was right, and the noticed it because of tests they did after my concerns. They have the best of intentions but we are part of our own health care team.

I only go to my doctors/specialists (8 in all)--hey, it happens when you get old-- once a year and I feel great until I go to see them and have all sorts of things wrong with me I do have faith in my primary and we sit down after all the reports are in and discuss what, if any, changes should be made--with medicines today they ALL have these lists of side effects to cover the companies!
