The premise of "Kiss The Bride" seems to be that you can love a man and not love men therefore not be gay.
I forget what movie it was that had the line, "Why is it only gay men who say they are bi-sexual?" In this movie the line is, "Why is it that men who are leaving their wife for a male says that he is bi-sexual?" Now Anne Heshe left Ellen for a man but I have never heard of a man leaving his male lover for a female though I am sure it has happened as it does in this movie.
The movie is 115 minutes and has a lot of padded material that could have been cut but then it probably would have run only about 60-70 minutes. All the roles of the mothers and fathers doesn't really add anything to the movie except a sit-cm line here. and there for laughs.
This is the second movie in a month--the other being Made Of Honor--that is a take off on "My Best Friend's Wedding" but neither have actors of the caliber of Julia Roberts and/or Rupert Everett.
While Philipp Karner and James O'Shea do okay as the previous teenage lovers Tori Spelling doesn't register as the bride to be. Jane Cho (I don't believe any relation to Margaret Cho)is fine as Philipp's assistant, at a magazine with a hideous gay name which wouldn't sell a copy, she seems to have been thrown in the movie just to throw off one-liners which she does with style.
The various parents played by recognizable names and/or faces such as Tess Harper, Robert Foxworth and Joanna Cassidy really don't add anything to the plot lines. There is also a male stripper scene which provides a 'meet cute' between Philipp & Tori and provides a few unnecessary scenes between the real stripper and the sister.
I will admit I got teary eyed at more than one scene in the last half hour but since I am such an easy crier that really doesn't mean anything. :O)
I got more than I expected from the movie as I really didn't expect much but can't really recommend paying theatre prices so would suggest renting the DVD (which I think is available now) and fast forwarding during the 'parents' scenes.
The two male leads do offer some eye candy, including rear shots and plenty of shirts off shots, as too many 'gay' themed movies do but shy away from frontal nudity which is a (good) change.
