On Tuesday I was told that I needed to have my aorta valve replaced by a doctor I saw for, maybe, two minutes.
On Wednesday I called his office and the receptionist said she knew nothing about it but would check and get back to me. I told her I would like to have the surgery done on June 9.
Today being Friday, and not having heard from the receptionist of the cardiothoracic surgeon, I decided I had to take another track. I called my heart doctor and his receptionist said there was nothing in my records about the new surgery. She, also, added that since it was Memorial Day weekend office they would be closed until Tuesday, the 27th, and she wouldn't be able to find out anything until then. She did suggest that I call my primary doctor as he would have to handle all the referrals and necessary paperwork with the insurance company.
I called my primary doctor's office and guess what?? Right! The office is closed until Tuesday so nothing could be done until then but she would give me an appointment for Wednesday at 2 PM!!!!
Was I dreaming all this? Did I imagine that a doctor came into my hospital room and told me I needed open heart surgery? No one seemed to know about this but me!!! Have I finally gone around the bend? Or is it our medical system or lack of one? Don't doctors talk to each other? Isn't all results, reports suppose to go to my primary doctor so he could control and expedite things?
Maybe, just maybe, my insurance company knew what was going on. I called them and, yep, right again, they are closed until Tuesday!
If I wasn't determined to undue the damage I did yesterday I definitely had a perfect excuse to go on another eating binge but I'll be damned if I allow someone else, or a system, to set me on that course.
Trust me, that noise you will be hearing Tuesday & Wednesday will not be thunder--it will be getting answers one way or another!!
