food, restaurants
The first time I remember eating in an International House Of Pancakes
was in 1969 when I moved to Memphis. It was near the railroad tracks on
Perkins avenue behind Goldsmith's. Eventually it would be
interchangeable with the Original House of Pancakes and the Pancake House.
All were in blue and orange buildings with slanted roofs and their
menus were almost duplicates. This review applies to all 3 restaurants,
but since my last visit was to an IHOP, I am referring to that
particular chain.
The
main item I go to an IHOP for, and remember having that first time, is
a cheese omelet with a side of pancakes. The omelets are fluffy. the
cheese real and the 3 pancakes are also, fluffy, light and filling!
One
doesn't go to an IHOP for gourmet eating but for comfort food. There
are breakfasts served all day and choices of salads and burgers of all
kinds plus choices of desserts.
Service
is more than perfunctory and, generally, with friendly, if not top
drawer waitresses--I very seldom see a waiter at a IHOP--and paper
napkins are used instead of linen while the always filled coffee pot is
on the table.
For decent food,
exceptional omelets and pancakes, good service and reasonable prices
pancake houses are a good choice for breakfast, lunch and/or brunch!
