Pridelines Programs and Special Events

Four nights each week, Pridelines nurtures the youth it serves,
literally and figuratively, by providing a light meal or snack as well
as peer support, social events and educational programs.

Rainbow Circle

On Monday nights, Pridelines staff, staff from affiliated agencies
and volunteer facilitators help run a peer support group that delves
into such topics as coming out, relationships, STDS, bullying and
harassment, drugs, self-esteem, and depression. In this open and safe
environment, participants can express their thoughts and feelings
without fear.

“Pridelines has helped me come to terms with who I truly am
concerning my sexual orientation. I would not be the person I am today
if it weren’t for Pridelines.” – JD, age 20

Social Night

Wednesday nights are just for fun, when activities include watching
movies, playing games, sharing poetry, practicing for performances on
drama night, and much more.

Women’s Night

On Thursdays, the “Becoming Women” program is open to all young
women and those who identify themselves as women. Informational,
educational and outreach services are provided to lesbians, bisexuals,
transgender and questioning youth. Topics have included resume writing,
mock interviews, dressing for interviews and the job world, correct
table etiquette, career mentorships and GED/college application support
to help successful transition to adulthood.

Young Men Taking Action (YMTA)

On Friday nights, YMTA helps to support HIV prevention and urges
young men to make healthy choices and risky behaviors through programs
with a social, not preaching, focus. Peer group support is encouraged,
and young men learn how to identify challenges and enact their own
solutions.

How wonderful it was to read all about this, Martin! Great post!

It's great to have such organizations around to give support and attention to so many who need it, will benefit from it, and who will enjoy it.

Sorry, I'm a retired Dyke Activist. Retired due to disabilities. I was doing all the stuff they are doing now, back in the seventies and eighties, when there was no one else. I'm delighted to see that someone else has the sense to carry on the work. It's really important. It gave me much joy and fulfillment and sense of purpose and sense of belonging, back then, and for the almost twenty-some years I did it. it's a great way to make a difference in the world! I recommend it highly.

What wonderful people to organise such things -- but what does it say for our societies [Australia is no different] that such programs are necessary!

Most of us here, take care of the needs of some of them.
With the 4th of July coming, notice that the Homeless Vet.is asking
for help. This I contribute a lot and they deserved it.
