The Other Guys--a Movie Review

It
is August in South Florida which usually means rainy, humid days and
today was no different. It being Tuesday and most movie theatres only
charging $5 it is a good place to get out of the rain and humidity. I
think next time I will stay home.

I am not a fan of Will Ferrell but am one of Mark Wahlberg. This was the latter's 'comedy' debut and he did a good job as the straight man to Ferrell. (I
had typed excellent instead of good but nothing was excellent in this
film.)

Luckily Ferrell didn't get nude in this film but, on the other hand, neither did Wahlberg which would have least added some excitement to the film because all the chases and fights certainly didn't.

You
know this is a 'man's film' because Samuel L. Jackson and Dwayne
Johnson have extended cameos and Ferrell has a scene where he throws up.
Also Eva Mendez is here for eye candy which she certainly provides for
the guys and is part of a set up that falls flat because the premise is
so wrong and not funny.

The
main reason for this film failing is that it isn't funny no matter how
hard the cast, writer and director tries. They all try everything for a
laugh except a pie in the face and very little of it works.

I
say very little of it works because for a Tuesday matinee it was fairly
crowded--a lot of kids for a PG-13 movie--and, maybe, 3-4 of the audience seemed to find it funny.

I have deep aversions to some comedians: David Spade, Adam Sandler, Ferrall, and some I can't think of their names. If I never see another movie in my lifetime, it won't be too soon.

Movies are MY thing--I was raised on them--now if they would only go back to making good ones!!!
